Kamesh Salam Honoured by Business Today for Bamboo-Led Sustainable

Bamboo entrepreneur and sustainability advocate Kamesh Salam of Assam has been honoured by Business Today for his contributions to bamboo-led sustainable development and green innovation.

Salam was recognised for promoting bamboo as a tool for environmental sustainability, livelihood generation and rural economic growth. The honour highlights his long-standing efforts to build bamboo value chains, support community enterprises and advocate bamboo-based solutions across sectors.

Founder of World Bamboo Day, observed annually on September 18, Salam has worked for decades to showcase bamboo's ecological and economic potential. Through his enterprise, CanBoo (Cane & Bamboo Value Chain Management), he has led several landmark projects, including large-scale bamboo installations at Guwahati's Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

Reacting to the recognition, Salam dedicated the honour to bamboo-growing communities, artisans and entrepreneurs, and stressed the need for greater investment in bamboo-based industries to support sustainable livelihoods and green growth in the Northeast.

The award adds to a growing list of national and international accolades received by Salam for his work in advancing bamboo as a sustainable development resource.
