It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

Amid hectic lobbying in New Delhi for ministerial berth, Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal is preparing to expand his cabinet in a day or two. Sonowal is believed to have prepared a list. Nature conservation organisations like Wildflowers, CCER and Deopahar Researve Demand Committee hails the latest order of National Green Tribunal (NGT) on demolition of a wall blocking an elephant corridor near the Kaziranga National Park. On last Wednesday the tribunal asked the Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NFL), a public sector company, to demolish a 2.2 kilometre long wall blocking the elephant corridor within one month. The NGT proposed that the township of refinery ‘cannot be allowed’ as it comes in a “No Development Zone”. Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) strongly condemns the murder of a senior journalist based in Junagadh of Gujarat and asked the authority to nab the perpetrators and deliver justice to the victim family. The forum expressed shocks that the miscreants had entered to the bureau office of Gujarati newspaper 'Jai Hind', where Kishore Dave was working on Monday night and stabbed him to death. Dave, 53, was reportedly alone at the bureau office of the Rajkot based newspaper at that moment and he died on the spot. ULFA-I has demanded Rs 1 crore as ransom from a BJP leader in Tinsukia district to ensure safe release of his son they kidnapped early this month. In a video message to BJP MLA from Sadiya Balin Chetia, ULFA-I members asked Tinsukia district top BJP leader Ratneswar Maran to receive the amount from Chetia saying that Kuldeep has been working for Chetia for long.
