It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.
The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

One person was killed when a passenger carrying bus Binapani express (AS13 3681) collided with a Mahindra Bolero vehicle (TR-01 V 0226) at NH-31 Dhakpara area under Baihata Charali PS on Thursday. The bus was on its way from Guwahati to Tangla when it collided with the Bolero at Baihata Chariali. The driver of the Bolero died as an impact of the accident critically injuring four passengers of the Bolero, police said. The injured have been rushed to Tola Ram Bafna Civil Hospital, Amingaon. The dead have not been identified till the filling of this report.
In yet another blow to the poll-hit Congress in Assam, a sitting legislator has joined BJP on Thursday. He is none other than Mansing Rongpi who deserted the opposition party much to the delight of the ruling BJP. Rebel Congress leader Kalikho Pul refused to step down even a day after the Supreme Court reinstated Nabam Tuki as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister. Amid incessant rains two landslide incidents in Guwahati claimed two lives in the city on Thursday. The first incident took place in Nijarapar near Noonmati area in the morning where a woman was buried by the debris. Identified as Nurjahan Begam, she died when the huge piece of rock accompanied by mud slipped on the house where she lived in. The second incident took place atop the South Sarania hills where a person lost his live. Identified as Manik Rabha he was buried alive by the mud which covered his house early in the morning.
