It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

Youth Congress activists in Jalukabari are holding a huge meeting against Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma who is set to formally join BJP on Friday.Youth Congress leaders decided to hold the rally to prevent Dr Sarma’s fans from joining BJP. “Several senior Congress leaders are expected to join the rally on Thursday,” said a youth Congress leader.  Another youth Congress leader said, “we want to show our strength in Jalukbari even in the absence of Himanta Biswa Sarma.”
AAKRSA and ABSU have withdrawn 12 hour Baksa bandh on Thursday demanding exemplary punishment for the driver and his assistant who gangraped two a minor girl inside a passenger bus in Goreswar last week.The organizations have finalized the decision after the authorities have assured them of stern action against the perpetrators. Police have arrested one of the rapists who is being interrogated. Another is still absconding.     
Yet another gangrape incident in Barpeta sends no less sensation across the state on Wednesday. The shocking incident took place inside a house in Howly beside the Barpeta Medical College Hospital where four youths gangraped a 12 year old local girl.Later she was left under the Howly overbridge. The parents of the victim lodged a complaint before police. The accused are still on the run. The incident assumes significance hardly a week a after a private bus driver and his assistant gangraped a minor girl inside their bus in Goreswar triggering massive protest across the state.
In a huge relief for Nabam Tuki, the Supreme Court on Wednesday stayed the Gauhati High Court’s judgment ordering CBI probe into the allegations against Arunachal Pradesh chief minister.Taking up the plea, a bench of Supreme Court has stayed the high court’s order for CBI probe into the role of the then PWD minister in 2011.The huge scam in allocation of contracts took place when Tuki was holding the PWD portfolio forcing the Gauhati High Court on August 21 to order CBI probe.
In yet another move that can ignite the anti-dam stir across the north eastern region, NHPC starts resuming the hydel dam construction at Gerukamukh. NHPC is believed to recruited many workers to be heavily guarded by the security forces. No worker is allowed to come out of the construction fearing attack by the anti-dam protestors.NHPC has allegedly resumed the hydel dam construction without any go-ahead from the expert committee who have been studying the allegations by the anti dam protestors. But no local organizations have come out in protest against the NHPC who has resumed the construction of the hydel dam.           
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma embroils in yet another controversy after he made public his move to join BJP.  Highly placed sources told Assam Times that AICC has yet to receive any letter from the former minister.On the other hand, APCC has confirmed that Dr Sarma has not formally resigned from the party before he met BJP president Amit Shah in New Delhi on Sunday.This has forced the party to suspend Dr Sarma from the party’s primary membership on Tuesday. APCC president Anjan Dutta served Dr Sarma a showcase notice asking him to clarify why he should be spared. 
Delhi police busted a major sex racket after recovering three minor girls on Wednesday. Acting on some disturbing inputs, a police team conducted a raid at a room in Narayan area where the three minors girls were rescued.Delhi police are in touch with their counterparts in Assam to handover the rescued girls.
