BPF Candidates File Nominations in Kokrajhar on Final Day; Multiple Parties Join Fray

Kokrajhar, March 23: Candidates from several political parties filed their nomination papers on the final day of filing for the upcoming Assam Legislative Assembly elections, with the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) putting up a strong show in Kokrajhar.

Five BPF candidates, including Sewli Mohilary, wife of former BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary, submitted their nomination papers after taking out a massive rally from Green Field in Kokrajhar. The rally was followed by a public meeting attended by party leaders and supporters.

The BPF candidates who filed nominations are Sewli Mohilary from No. 3 Kokrajhar, Rabiram Narzary from No. 2 Dotma, Rupam Ray from No. 4 Baokhungri, Sobharam Basumatary from Gossaigaon, and Dr. Rezaul Karim from No. 5 Parbatjhora constituency.

Speaking after filing her nomination, Sewli Mohilary said she had received strong support from the people and expressed confidence about her victory. Similarly, Rabiram Narzary, the BPF candidate from Dotma, said the party is receiving encouraging public backing and claimed that the BPF would perform strongly in the elections.

Baokhungri BPF candidate Rupam Ray stated that he would work with dedication and honesty if elected and would strive to take everyone forward together.

Meanwhile, candidates from other political parties also filed nominations in Kokrajhar district. In Baokhungri, Pratibha Brahma of the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) and Sapali Marak of the Congress filed their nominations after separate rallies.

Several other candidates also entered the electoral fray across constituencies. These include Asharaful Islam Sheikh (Congress) and Abu Taher Bepari (AIUDF) from Parbatjhora, Joseph Hasda (Congress) from Gossaigaon, and Birkhang Boro (Congress) from Dotma, along with multiple independent candidates.

In Baokhungri LAC, a total of 13 nominations were filed on the last day, reflecting a highly competitive contest. In Dotma, five candidates submitted their nomination papers, while Gossaigaon also saw multiple candidates entering the race.

Election authorities said the nomination process concluded smoothly across Kokrajhar district, and scrutiny of nomination papers will take place as per the schedule set by the Election Commission of India.

With nominations now closed, the political battle in the Bodoland region is set to intensify as parties prepare for the campaign ahead.

The Mwihur International Theatre Festival has ended in Kokrajhar, Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). The seven-day festival took place at the Bodofa Cultural Complex, Chandamari. The United People’s Party(UPP) candidate  for Kokrajhar east Pratibha Brahma filed nomination papers to the Returing Officer at DC office in Kokrajhar on Monday.
