Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

AICC leader Mallikarjun Kharge is on a visit to Guwahati  on Monday to lead a protest over the move to hike the train fares. According to AICC sources, Kharge who was the railway minister in the UPA government would take on the Modi government for the proposed hike in the passenger and freight rates. Notably, initially the Modi government proposed to hike the rail fares citing a pending proposal during the UPA government. But Kharge made it plain that the entire proposal was left to the next government.           
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has skipped his trip to New Delhi on Monday after AICC rescheduled its crucial meeting where the party’s top policy making body was to discuss the Lok Sabha poll debacle. AICC rescheduled the meeting following  Rahul Gandhi’s foreign trip. The meeting to be held on July 6 is expected to make some changes in the government and party. The meeting is unlikely to consider the dissident CLP members’ plea for change of chief minister as it was expected earlier. Dr CP Joshi, Motilal Vhora, Dr Ghulam Nabi Azad, AK Antony and Bhubneswar Kalita are scheduled to attend the meeting.  
Normal life in many parts of Guwahati has come to a grinding halt following massive water logging from Saturday night after heavy downpour lashed the city for several hours. Parts of the busy RG Baruah Road and GS Road have come under the artificial flood causing much inconvenience for the people following the incessant rains. The massive waterlogging further results in traffic snarl in several parts of the city. The worst-hit areas include Chandmari, Silpukhuri, Anil nagar, Lachit Nagar, Nabin Nagar forcing the local residents to remain confined to their homes.

Railway ministry’s move to hike pssenger and freight rates have evoked protest and condemnation across Assam on Saturday. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi condemned the move saying it a blow to the common people. In  statement Gogoi called it a breach of trust people reposed on Modi and his government.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi comes in for sharp criticism across the state a day after he advocated allowing Bangladeshi migrants to work in the north east with visa. Narendra Modi’s green signal to Bhutan over the construction of big dams in the Himalayan kingdom generated anger and protest across Assam. A section of AICC leaders is understood to have devised a mechanism to end dissidence in CLP  by changing chief minister. They are averse to allow Tarun Gogoi to continue as chief minister. But top AICC sources told this correspondent that there is hardly any chance for change in chief minister.
