It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

Dispur: Deka meets Borkotoky

Agriculture minister Nilomoni Sen Deka met Sarat Borotoky Wednesday  on fuelling the specualtion of Chief minister’s new measures to contain the dissident ministers and MLAs. Deka, the trusted minister of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi arrived in Sarat Borkotoky’s official residence at 11 in the morning. Himanta in Delhi to meet Sonia

Health and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa has been camping in New Delhi to call on Congress president Sonia Gandhi to formally raise the demand for change in CLP leadership. According to sources, Gandhi is unlikely to meet Dr Sarma on Wednesday. However, the dissident minister is free to meet Dr CP Joshi, Dr Ghulam Nabi Azad and Motilal Vhora who have been monitoring the widening difference within the Congress legislative party.

Poacher killed in Kaziranga encounter

Forest guards in Kaziranga claimed to have killed a rhino poacher at an encounter on Wednesday. But four others managed to flee from the spot. The heavy gun battle took place near Gobrai forest camp where five poachers were believed to have been trying to kill a rhino on Tuesday midnight. One of the poachers was killed while four others managed to escape from the spot. Operation is still going on to flush out the rhino poachers who have already killed over 20 rhinos so far this year.          

Nityananda-Ratul killer captured

Police on Tuesday claimed to have captured 6 UPLA militants responsible for killing of Nityananda Goswami and Ratul Nunisa who were killed at an encounter in Karbi Anglong district last week. The UPLA militants including their deputy commander in chief Nikunj Kathar were captured during a combing operation inside the a dense jungle in the hills district bordering Meghalaya. The huge operation was launched from Monday evening four days after the Karbi militants killed the Hamren SP Goswami and his PSO Ratul Nunisa at an encounter which created no less flutter across the state. Trapped girl rescued in Goalpara

SDRF team finally rescued Manashi Rabha 5 hours after she fell into 40 feet deep well in Golapara district on Tuesday.  The college girl in Bapuji Nagar area was rescued at 8 in the morning after SDRF team launched the operation. Then she was rushed to the Goaplara Civil Hospital for treatment. She remained trapped from 2 in the wee hours in a well after she slipped into it forcing the authority to deploy SDRF team to ensure her safe rescue.  

Minor boys meet watery grave

Three minor boys were believed to have been met watery grave after they slipped into a stone quarry in Golaghat district on Monday. The incident took place at Bijuli Quarry in Bokakhat where the trio went to bath. Suddenly , they slipped into the deep quarry where they could not come out of it. Rescue operation continued for several hours to fish the bodies to be identified as Bimal Ingty,  Longri Ingty and Jinsang Taro.

Prez stresses influx issue

President Pranab Mukherjee said on Monday that the Centre was firm on dealing with the infiltration issue. In his address at Parliament, Mukherjee said that the Narendra Modi government will complete the process of Indo-Bangladesh border border fencing in Assam and the neighbouring north eastern states. Notably, the prime minister in his recent cabinet  meeting said that his government will be able to properly address immigration issue.

One crushed to death by train

A pall of gloom descends in Amguri area in Sivasagar district when a local villager was believed to have been crushed to death by train on Monday. Identified as Rongai Bora, the body of the carpenter by profession in Cheleng Kumargaon was found on the railway tracts in the morning. But how and when the incident took place is not known.

Villager killed in firing

A villager was killed and another minor boy sustained injury when security forces guarding the NHPC project resorted to firing in Lakhimpur district on Sunday The incident took place in the evening where identified as Madan Sarma, the local villager was shot dead while a minor boy identifiedas Imran Hussain sustained injury. Imran later was shifted to the Lakhimpur Civil hospital for treatment. Details awaited.    

Dissdents demand CLP meet by 10 days

The dissident Congress ministers and MLAs have again served 10 days ultimatum to the party leadership to hold CLP meeting to discuss the poll debacle. After the end of an emergency meeting of the dissident camp at the official residence of Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, the health minister said that the impasse in the political front should be addressed by the chief minister himself. He, however, said that they would formaly send the memorandum to the party high command on Monday.  Altogether 41 dissident MLAs and ministers attended the meeting followed by a feast on Sunday evening.
