Gandhian Salem Nanjundaiah Subba Rao will interact with the media persons at Guwahati Press Club today afternoon at 5 pm. A fellow of Gandhi Peace Foundation and founder of National Youth Project, Dr Rao is known for his mission to uplift the spirit of youth in the world for building a new society based on love, peace, harmony and social justice. Affectionately called by everyone as ‘Bhai Ji’, Dr Rao is remembered for his enormous role in surrendering many dacoits in the Eighties.

Born in Bangalore in 1929, Dr Rao was inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi since his childhood days. Eventually he became a Khadi-wearer. The freedom fighter Dr Rao was honoured with various awards including D.Lit. (by Kashi Vidhya Peeth), Bhartiya Ekta Puruskar, Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award, Rashtirya Sampradayik Sadbhavna Puruskar, Jamanalal Bajaj Puraskar, Mahatma Gandhi Purskar, Rashtriya Sadbhawna Ekta Prusaskar etc.

KOKRAJHAR: Job hunters thronged in thousands at Kokrajhar as the BTAD headquarters hosted the viva test for recruiting fourth grade employees in the health and family welfare department. Four arrested for killing Hemant

GUWAHATI: Hatigaon police have got remand of four persons in their custody for eight days who allegedly shot dead pulse trader Hemant Chorasia in the city. Identified as Mukuta Das, Nur Alom, Safikul Islam and Ramesh Yadav, they were picked up in this connection and were produced before a local court in Guwahati on Saturday. The incident took place on Wednesday evening when four bikers sprayed several rounds of bullets at Hemant as the trader was on his way back to home after closing his shop. He was rushed to the hospital where he succumbed to injuries.

GNLA chief killed in encounter

SHILLONG: Meghalaya police claimed to have killed GNLA commander in chief Sohan D Shira at a heavy gun battle in a remote place on Saturday.The encounter took place at Dobu near Sadagre where a group of GNLA rebels has been hiding for the last couple of days. Acting on some inputs, the Meghalaya police stormed into the area in search of the trouble mongers where the dreaded rebel was killed. Policemen deployed there have stepped up operation in search of his associate rebels who are believed to have been vanished from the spot.

Repolling in 6 booths in Tripura

PRASENJIT SAHAAGARTALA: The Election Commission has ordered repolling in six booths which is holding on February 26.
