Gandhian Salem Nanjundaiah Subba Rao will interact with the media persons at Guwahati Press Club today afternoon at 5 pm. A fellow of Gandhi Peace Foundation and founder of National Youth Project, Dr Rao is known for his mission to uplift the spirit of youth in the world for building a new society based on love, peace, harmony and social justice. Affectionately called by everyone as ‘Bhai Ji’, Dr Rao is remembered for his enormous role in surrendering many dacoits in the Eighties.

Born in Bangalore in 1929, Dr Rao was inspired by the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi since his childhood days. Eventually he became a Khadi-wearer. The freedom fighter Dr Rao was honoured with various awards including D.Lit. (by Kashi Vidhya Peeth), Bhartiya Ekta Puruskar, Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award, Rashtirya Sampradayik Sadbhavna Puruskar, Jamanalal Bajaj Puraskar, Mahatma Gandhi Purskar, Rashtriya Sadbhawna Ekta Prusaskar etc.

Three minors meet watery grave

GUWAHATI: Three minor boys met watery grave as they were playing in the outskirt of Guwahati sending a huge shockwave across the state on Wednesday. The incident took place at Rampur gaon in Palashbari where the trio went to a pond to swim and play who drowned instantly before somebody came to their rescue. Their bodies were fished out by the local residents before being identified as Binoy Das, Manjit Das and Chinmoy Das.

JPC reschedules Assam hearing in Delhi

Principal suspended for anomalies

Kokrajhar: The BTC authority has suspended principal in-charge of Ramfalbil HS school Susil Kumar Basumatary for alleged involvement in the mid day meal and bicycle distribution scam. Basumatary received the order of his immediate suspension on Tuesday charging him with deliberately doing anomalies in the distribution of bicycles for the students. 'Basumatary has been involved with irregularities in implementation of MDM and some other school functions as prescribed from the concern department. Tezpur DTO held in APSC scam

TEZPUR: The Dibrugarh police probing the APSC scam arrested DTO Prasenjit Ghose on Monday. Ghose, whom the government recently transferred from Guwahati to Tezpur for his alleged involvement in the coal scam was picked from his office in the morning. Acting on a tip off, a team of police picked up the four youths while another is absconding. LAKHIMPUR: Yet another girl was kidnapped and gangraped before being dumped on the roadside in Lakhimpur sending shock and anger across the state on Monday. The gory incident took place on Sunday evening in Naoboisa area where the minor girl was believed to have been forcibly picked up from the road to be gangraped by five miscreants at night. She was rescued in a critical condition on the roadside in the wee hours. Local residents and police have rushed her to the hospital where she has been battling to survive.
