Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.
Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.
He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

Mr. Tarun Gogoi is going mad because the assembly election of Assam is approaching. He is such a person who knows only vote bank politics. He is a useless Chief Minister of Assam who has no interest to protect the indigenous communities of Assam rather he is ready to protect the illegal Bangladeshis who entered illegally to our land. The vote bank politics of Congress in Assam will lead our state to be part of Bangladesh. Tarun Gogoi will sell Assam to Bangladesh and he along with his family will settlen down in London.
Dispur police are examining a complaint against two police officers who allegedly helped Anil Chauhan. Acting on a FIR the authorities are likely to quiz DSP Moni Saikia and SI Moscow Saikia in connection with a number of cases. In his FIR a journalist said that Chauhan in his confessional statement claimed to have received help from the police officers.
An Assam Congress delegation met Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Monday amid speculation that a dozen of sitting MLAs are preparing to join BJP. CM Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday claimed to have expedited the process to update NRC. Talking to reporters in Guwahati, he alleged that a section of political leaders has been trying to halt the process to gain political mileage. Indirectly taking on Badaruddin Ajmal, Gogoi said that it would a long way to solve the decade old problem of influx in the state. Gogoi's comment assumes significance after the AIUDF boss feared that NRC is a conspiracy against the Muslims.
A hardcore NDFB-S rebel died at an encounter with security forces in Sonitpur district on Monday. The encounter took place at Chariduwar area along the Assam-Arunachal pradesh border in the wee hour. Identified as Engrai the rebel succumbed to injuries on the way to the hospital. Army and police seized a bike, grenade and a pistol from his possession.

In yet another boost for BJP a veteran AGP leader from Titabor joined the ruling party at the centre. He was AGP veteran Hemanta Kalita who joined BJP at a function along with over 100 supporters. State BJP president Siddharth Bhattacharya who was present in the function called a positive sign for the party. One person was killed and many houses were ravaged when a powerful storm hit Lakhimpur district on Sunday. The storm began at 4.30 in the wee hours damaging over 200 houses apart from disrupting surface communication in a huge area of the district. The worst-hit area is Nahoroni where one person died in the storm. Identified as Khirud Bora, he died as the house collapsed on him under the impact of the calamity. It would require 3 or 4 days to restore communications.

The stage is set for chief minister Tarun Gogoi to expand his cabinet again. Talking to Assam Times in the sidelines of a bihu function in Gurgaon on Saturday, Gogoi said he was waiting for Rahul Ghandhi's green signal to complete the formality. "I am trying to meet Rahulji on Sunday to get his seal of approval. Then I can proceed," Gogoi told Assam Times in the sidelines of the Bihu function. Gogoi who arrived in New Delhi will attend the kishan rally.
