Garo hills flood scene grim
The flood scene in West Garo Hills deteriorates further in the face of more rains that lashed Meghalaya. Major rivers stated flowing above the danger levels following non stop rains during the last 48 hours.
Continuous landslide wreaks no less havoc in Tura. The worst-hit areas include Upper Chandmary where a portion of the road was washed away near Gandrak waterfall and at Babupara.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi said that disaster management team has been on alert across the district. He advised the schools to remain shut till Friday.
On Tuesday, a schoolgirl had gone missing from Asibra village, near Rongram in West Garo Hills. Locals say that she was washed away in the currents of Ganol river. The rescue team is yet to locate the nine-year-old girl.

Ravaged roads and bridges have been causing no less inconvenience for the people in the North Garo Hills for the last couple of years. Repeated requests for fresh look have been fallen on deaf ears. This has forced the Garo Students Union (GSU) of the Northern Zone to hit the streets on Saturday demanding steps to repair the roads and bridges from Mendipathar to Gajingpara in the district.
