The centre is closely monitoring the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur. Violence will only compound the problem. Need of the hour is exercising restraint. This was more or less of what a home ministry team said in Manipur on Tuesday when they were on a stock taking visit to the restive north eastern state a month after 9 people died in a orgy of violence after the assembly passed three controversial bills.
The central team headed by Ashok Prasad, told the agitating people to exercise restraint when they talked to them after arriving in Churachandpur in the morning. Here is the excerpt of the speech for the agitating people.
"I can feel their pains and I understand their extend of bereavement. Loss of lives would always be a tragedy more so when it involved those who are plucked away in the prime of their lives. As a brother I share your tears and grief and as a friend I stand by you in your prayers for peace to the departed souls.
These are difficult time that we faced today. A difficult situation that can only be move forward with the help and sympathetic participations of all the stake holders. In fact the relative calm that we produced here today is a tribute to your understanding in the face of great tragedy. I appeal to all of you for continuation of this steering and I particularly the role play by the mothers and ladies of this area who have appeared in the forefront in helping to stabilized and pacified an extremely volatile situations.
I am also grateful to the elders and leaders of this area for their guidance and their directions that they have provided and continue to provide to steer us through this stormy period. I pray to them to continue to guide and advise us as we work toward the speedy resolution of the issue and the avoidance of further tragedy.
After this I'll be interacting with the different stake holders assisting and listening to their words of concerns and I will be taking their valuable suggestions. Some of you have already been interacting with the Central government and I am aware of their concerns and of the commitment of the government in Delhi to join prosperity and peace of this region with the rest of the country. It will be my endeavor to understand the nuances and complexity of the situation so that necessary and effective steps can be initiated at appropriate levels to bring back peace and stability to this area."

MARGHERITA: Petroleum products worth crores of rupees have gone up in flame when rebels set on fire nearly a dozen of oil tankers in Tinsukia district forcing the security forces to launch a massive menhunt on Tuesday. The incident took place at around 5 in the afternoon when these these tankers were bound for Digboi from Kharsang. MARGHERITA: Despite a stepped up counter insurgency operations a section of Naga rebels has been unleashing terror along in the form of extortion along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. The Assam Rifles jawans on Tuesday held a hardcore NSCN(K) rebel during an operation in Ledo who has been extorting money from a section of people in the area. Acting on a tip off, the army jawans raised the Mullong Village where the rebel was arrested who was identified as Bishnu Bhujel. HOJAI: Yet another wild elephant died of electrocution in Hojai on Tuesday sending shock and anger among the nature and wild life activists across the state. GUWAHATI: After a brief silence poaching strikes again in Kaziranga where a full grown rhino was killed on Sunday. The forest guards deployed in Bagori range discovered the carcass hours after the poachers killed it for the horn. Kokrajhar: Seven wage earners sustained injury when the mini truck on which they were travelling from Bilashipara in Dhuburi met with a mishap in Kokrajhar on Monday.
