Manipur Governor Dr Syed Ahmad passed away on Sunday at 12.45 hours at Lilavati Hospital, Mumbai due to illness.  He was 75.

Manipur: two cops suspended

IMPHAL: Manipur Home Department has on Thursday placed a sub-inspector and a constable under suspension in connection with a melee wherein several student members were brutally beaten up by cops during a protest here on Monday. Activists of Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) were attempting to storm the Manipur BJP head office and Governor’s bungalow on July 16 demanding immediate sacking of Manipur University Vice Chancellor Adya Prasad Pandey. 48-hour Manipur-wide shutdown call by MUSU

IMPHAL: Most Valley based student organisations have extended support to the 48-hour Manipur wide shutdown call given by the Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) beginning midnight tonight. The shutdown is called for demand of removal of Manipur University Vice Chancellor Adya Prasad Pandey. Khelen Thokchom’s death: Condolences pour in

IMPHAL, Apr 3: Condolences continued to pour in from different quarters over the death of senior journalist Khelen Thokchom of Manipur. On Tuesday, the All Manipur Women’s Development Forum in a statement deeply condoled the demise of Khelen Thokchom, one of the highly respected journalists of North East. He passed away at the age of 58 on Sunday morning following a cardiac arrest. NIA to probe into missing arms case

IMPHAL, Mar 31 (NENA) Chief Minister Nongthongbam Biren has on Saturday said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe into the missing case of 56 pistols from Arms Kote of 2nd Manipur Rifles.  “The incident poses a serious threat to both state and national security,” Biren told a press conference at CM Secretariat.  The Manipur Chief Minister said the missing case of weapons from Arms Kote of 2nd MR is a matter of serious concern and expressed suspicion that there are political conspiracies in the case.  “The government has already written to the NIA to carry out a thorough investigation into the case. Tripartite talks over district creation issue remains ‘inconclusive’

SENAPATI, Mar 23 (NENA): Tripartite talks involving the Centre, Manipur government and United Naga Council (UNC) to end the deadlock over creation of new districts remained “inconclusive.”  On Friday, talks were held at the DRDA conference hall, Senapati district headquarters from 11:25 till 2 pm.  It was agreed in the meeting to hold the next round of talks on April 27 next.
