The Bharatiya Janata Party, Titaguri Mandal Committee under the Kokrajhar District Committttee on Thursday staged a protest demonstration in front of the ‘Block Development Office at Titaguri on various issues especially against the corruption, demanded VCDC election in Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC).

Hundreds of BJP leaders,workers and activists carrying plycards, festoons and banners and shouting slogans carried out the protest demonstration for three hours. A memorandum was later submitted to the Assam Governor through the Kokrjhar Block Dvelopmnet officer(BDO) office demanding immediate remedial action in the region and good governance. 

The demands includes “Audit of Budget expenditure” by an independent Agency like Controller of Auditor General of India, for the last 15 (fifteen) years of Bodoland Territorial Council. The BJP demanded that all the Department/Branches should be covered for the Audit by the Controller of Auditor General of India.

Alleging large scale corruption in the Council, anomalies in providing the houses to the BPL (Below Poverty Line) card holder under the 0schemes of “Indira Awaj Yojana” (IAY), it said that public have complaints that many beneficiaries has not got the houses even those who have been benefited is not according to the standard marked by the Central Govt. It demanded a CBI enquiry against such a huge corruption where BTC administration and political parties are involved.

Vehicular thief arrested

Salakati police in Kokrajhar district arrested a vehicular thief late last night at Salakati rail track.  He was identified as Naba Das of Belsar in Nalbari district, who was involved with stealing of a four wheeler Mahindra pick up van bearing registration AS-16C-2207. An FIR was registered no.138/16 with Salakati police outpost in this connection, under section (u/s) 457/380/411 IPC. 

KLO ultra held

In a joint operation launched by the security forces from Assam Police and Army apprehended a cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organization (KLO) at Salakati village under Kokrajhar PS on Friday.  He was identified as Sonaram Roy of Balagaon area of Kokrajhar district. He was involved with extortion and money collection, besides working to recruit new members for the organization.  An AK-47 riffle, two live bullet and a mobile handset was recovered from. 

Mock drill in Kokrajhar

An emergency response mock drill was conducted by the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) at Habrubari in Kokrajhar district on Friday,which was a part of offsite emergency mock on the IOCL Guwahati-Siliguri underground pipeline to test the preparedness of its emergency personnel. A live fire fighting exercise was carried out alongside the drill by Fire and Rescue Services personnel. The mock drill started with hooting of the emergency siren where all official and IOCL employees were seen rushing to the spot and they combated the fire. Cracks appeared in the Religious Minority Council(RMC),BTC region over the issue of supporting to the Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF) party in the ensuing Assam assembly election.The rift appeared in the council after president Sohrab Khan announced openly that RMC leaves to support the BPF party in the election. KLO untras arrested

Security forces from Assam Police and Army have claimed to capture two-over ground worker (OGW)/linkmen of Kamatapur Liberation Organisation(KLO) from Thuribari area in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday. Women’s Day celebrated at NTPC

Bongaigaon Thermal Power Project also joined the rest of the country in celebrating International Women’s Day here at Salakati on Tuesday in Kokrajhar district.
