A massive security is in place in and around Guwahati in view of VVIP visit to the premier north eastern city of on Tuesday. ISL chairperson Nita Ambani is scheduled to land the city at around 3 in the afternoon to attend the ISL match where NorthEast United FC are taking on Chennaiyin FC at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Sarusajai.

She would be accompanied by many dignitaries. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, a few of his cabinet colleagues are also likely to attend the match. All vehicles are being scrutinized on the road from Borjhar airport to Khanapara in view of the high profile visit to the city.

NEW DELHI: Nearly three dozen organizations,mostly from Assam, have strongly opposed the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 as they met the Joint Parliament Committee in New Delhi on Tuesday. GUWAHATI: A CID team set up to probe the multi crore coal scam in Barak valley has arrested 5 officers on Wednesday leaving hint of more arrested in this connection. They include Katigarh circle inspector Ilahi Borbhuyan, tax inspectors Babul Mandal and Sajal Das, Anjanjyoti Bora,  transport inspector whom the investigating officers arrested in the wee hours after eight hours of non stop interrogation. TEZPUR: Amid an escalating acrimony across the nation over sexual crimes, yet another incident sends huge shock and anger in Assam where a minor girl was raped and killed in Biswanath on Tuesday. GUWAHATI: Yet another gruesome gangrape incident strikes Assam hardly a month after the Nagaon one where unidentified miscreants dumped a gangraped girl in the city of Guwahati sending huge shock and anger across the state on Monday. Passersby in Gorchuk area in the city rescued the girl in critical condition near Lachitgarh HS School in the morning. Kokrajhar: A sudden shortage of Indian Postal Order (IPO)  has been causing immense inconvenience for many people in Kokrajhar also along with many other places. Hundreds of people were seen waiting in queue in front of the post offices for IPO required for many official and personal purposes. The worst affected are the job applicants since the last date is nearing. “We are disappointed. We have been waiting for IPO since morning. But of no avail. The post office falls short of IPOs,” said a citizen in Kokrajhar. Meanwhile, the officials admitted virtually that they have not received adequate number of IPOs to meet the people.
