Former minister cremated in Golaghat

The mortal remains of Prabin Kumar Gogoi consigned to flames after the lifeless AGP veteran arrived in Golaghat on Tuesday.  His fans thronged in thousands at his residence as soon as the body arrived to be followed by last respect to the former minister.Then his body was taken with a huge procession to the cremation ground. Many people deplored that the minister was cremated with full state honour. Gogoi died at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital on Monday after prolonged illness.

Truck crushed by speeding train

A truck driver had a narrow escape when a speeding train rammed into the vehicle he was driving in Golaghat district of Assam on Monday. The incident took place at Khakandguri where the Kamakhya Express rammed into the mini truck bearing no. NL-01/A-5991 as it was crossing the unmanned level crossing. The mini truck was left mangled badly in the incident.  

AGP leader Prabin Gogoi dead

Pall of gloom descends in Golaghat district when senior AGP leader Probin Gogoi died after prolonged illness in Guwahati on Monday. The end came for the founder AGP leader at 10-30 in the morning at the Guwahati Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment. He was 66.Gogoi, the leader in the Assam agitation was elected to the Assam assembly for the first time from AGP in 1985. He was sports, civil supply minister in the Mahanta cabinet in its first term. In 1996, he was elected again as independent. Conservation effort-Thuramukh style

What ails the people of Thuramukh area in Golaghat district of Assam? Deforestation have left them high and dry beside the famed Nambor reserved forest. Not only that. For the last couple of years they have been bearing the brunt of the growing men elephant conflict. On Monday hundreds of local residents thronged the forest areas and started bamboo and banana plantations. BJP takes out protest in Golaghat

Hundreds of BJP leaders and workers hit the streets in Golaghat on Friday alleging utter misgovernance and cancerous corruption in public life in the entire state. Girl taken ill after taking iron tablet

In yet another incident that forces many people to shy away from Tejswi, a minor is battling for life in Golaghat minutes after she was administered folic acid. The incident took place at No 1 Senchowa LP School where Ruprekha Bora started vomiting as soon as she consumed folic acid tablet. The Class I student could not speak and even move her tongue. The panic stricken teachers rushed her to the KK Civil Hospital for treatment. Local residents, in large number in the area are now opposing such drive fearing the rerun of the incident.

Mrinal Saikia targets Rockybul

Nagaon BJP leader Mrinal Saikia’s target now is none other than Rockybul Hussain. Elephant calf rescued in Golaghat

Local residents in Thuramukh area in Golaghat heaved a sigh of relief after they managed to ensure the safe rescue of an elephant calf from a deep drain on Thursday. Talking to Assam Times local residents said that the calf was trapped in the drain in Thuramukh tea garden when it as accompanying a herd of wild elephant who came down to the area in search of food in the morning.Initially, the full grown elephants tried to rescue the calf.
