ABSU long march

The influential All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has again kicked off its long march for total revolution to creating peace, justice and development among society here at Kajigaon ground under Parbatjhora subdivision in the district on Wednesday. 

It was organised by Kokrajhar district unit of the students union where hundreds of student activists and volunteers took part from various parts of the district. 

The march will be covered up over 130 villages under four anchalik committees of Parbatjhora subdivision which will be concluded on November 3 at Tipkai where they will be holding meeting with villagers to discuss on the several issues like education, social integration, social development, listening, discussing, planning and working to meet total revolution in the region. 

Lawrence Islary, General Secretary of ABSU attending the inaugural of the march said that the students union has been organising long march since 2013 to meet good living, healthy society, development and working for integration in thd region. He said that the common publics are facing lots of hardships in several fronts of social aspects like education, health, communication due to non initiatives from government. 

'The long march was organised to creating awareness about educational, social upliftment, economic sustainable steps among common publics through bringing of total revolution in the area', Islary said. 

The march will meet villagers in close contact where they would talk with villagers on core issues of education, economic sustainable, social security, stop of superstition, equal distribution and rights,  he said adding that society should get equal distribution and rights to the front of social security. 

Jadav Pegu, SDO Parbatjhora graced the ceremony as chief guest and flagged off the march in the presence of peace brigade and public. He has lauded the initiative taken from the students union to the greater interest of social upliftment and development among common masses. 

'It is a innovative and necessary step to build a healthy situation taking from the students union among society'. He has expressed his confidence that common society will get social change and integration through the long march. 

An awareness meeting in connection with long march was also organised earlier of the day with Janak Ujir, vice president of the Kokrajhar district unit ABSU on the chair. 

Sahitya Academy awarded Janil Kumar Brahma, noted social worker Niranjan Brahma, several organisation leaders were prominent attendies who were present on the day.

2 NDFB-S linkmen arrested

Security forces have claimed to arrest two linkmen of the NDFB-S from Patgaon area today in Kokrajhar district.  Acting on a tiptop information about the movement and working of linkmen, a joint team if security forces from army, CRPF and police conducted an operation and able to apprehend two persons during the raid from Kalasi under Patgaon outpost. Surrendered NDFB killed

A surrendered NDFB was killed and another received seriously injured in a clash among the group at the outfit’s camp at Sudempuri in Kokrajhar town this evening. Police said Darendra Basumatary, who is stated to be from Dotma Alengmari in Kokrajhar died on the spot when he was shot at from close range by another member of the camp Rakesh Brahma after a quarrel. Another person Aninda Daimary of Sonitpur district was received seriously injured. UGPO cadre held

Security forces apprehended  a  cadre of United Gorkha Peoples’ Organisation from Chetri Basti under Serfanguri PS today in Kokrajhar district. Based on a specific information, a joint team of  security forces belonging to Army,CRPF and Police launched an operation in the general area of Sefanguri and managed to arrest a UGPO cadre  from Chetri Basti,who is also likman of NDFB(S). The cadre was identified as Dipak Kumar Newar Pradhan,of Chetri basti. The arrested was involved in money extortion,providing administrative support to NDFB(S) cadres. A pistol , ammunition was recovered from him.

Adieu Chino Basumatary

A tearful adieu bid was given to senior journalist and editor of Bodosa daily late Chino Basumatary at his birth place Bhaulaguri Kashikotra in Chirang district today.  Relative, well wisher and journalist fraternity from Kokrajhar and Chirang districts thronged at hix residence to paid last respect to Basumatary and buried after performing Hindu rituals. NDFB-S rebel arrested

One NDFB-S militant identified as Majendra Narzary (41) was apprehanded from Khasiabari under Kokrajhar police station in the district today by a joint team of army and police . One postol along with one live round was recovered from him.

Hagrama condoles

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary expressed his deep sorrow over demise of senior journalist and editor of Bodosa daily Chino Basumatary at a private hospital in Guwahati on Tuesday.   'Media fraternity lost a dedicated journalist in the state with death of Basumatary', Mohilary said.  Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MLB Pramila Rani Brahma have also expressed their deepest shock over demise of Chino, who had played eye opener of Bodo newspaper in the region.  'The Bodo society as well as whole state lost great dedicated journalist, which has become unfulfilled situation in the state', the leaders added.   

Press Club members paid homage to Chino

Journalist fraternity and Kokrajhar Press Club paid rich floral tribute at press club premises to senior journalist and editor of Bodosa daily late Chino Basumatary, who passed away today at International Hospital, Guwahati after prolong ailing.  Ajit Kumar Basumatary, president of the club hoisted organizational flag in half respecting to Basumatary. Monalisa Sarma, president of Kokrajhar district committee of JUA paid floral tribute.  Press Club expressed deep sorrow over untimely demise of late Basumatary and prayed for eternal peace of his soul.   

Veteran journalist Chino Basumatary no more

It is shock news that a torch bearer of journalism in Lower Assam’s Bodoland region and senior journalist and Editor of Bodosa,a daily newspaper published from Kokrajhar Chino Basumatary passes away this morning at 9 AM at a private Nursing Home in Guwahati. Basumatary, was a one of senior most journalist of Lower Assam’s Bodoland region, started his career as editor in Aronai, a fortnight news paper in Bodo language in 1986, hold editorship and proprietor of Bodosa weekly from 1991 to 2005 and then he soldiered editorship of upgraded Bodosa Daily newspaper from 2006 to till his death.  Basumatary born in 1953 at Kashikotra of Chirang district and then involved with journalism...
