Akhil warns BJP, RSS

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi has urged the people to unmask Congress government in the state and Narendra Modi government at the Centre alleging that the common people have been bearing the brunt of a set of anti-people policies.

Just before resuming his Sabhavana Yatra at Raha on Tuesday morning, Gogoi said that the BJP-led government has been trying to foment communal trouble in Assam along with other parts of the country. ’’ The need of the hour is to be aware of the BJP party. This BJP government has been doing precious little for the common people during the last one and half years” Gogoi told the huge crowd of 10,000 people.

Warning BJP and RSS of dire consequences if they further try to politicize Lachit Barphukan Gogoi said that the people of Assam will never allow the Ahom General to mire in Hindutva politics. “Why will we allow? They are trying to politicize Lachit Barphukan. They are politicizing Sankardev! No, we wont tolerate,” said the KMSS leader.

Gogoi said, “I warn BJP and RSS for the last time to stop playing politics over Lachit Barphukan and the Saint Sankardev. They will have to face the consequences.”

Earlier, Gogoi asked the people to beware of Congress government in Dispur and the NDA government at the Centre. Sharpening his attack on Congress , he said that both Congress and BJP parties have already done no less harm for Assam and its people.

The KMSS firebrand told the crowd that the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre is dangerous for the farmers, traders, workers and labourers. “Public properties are being sold. One after another taxes have been imposed to be born by the common people,” said Gogoi.

“With this long march we want to make the people aware of the anti people policies of the NDA government at the Centre. The government is trying to create communal clash in the state. The need of the hour is a massive awareness drive to thwart the attempt,” said Gogoi to this correspondent just before the march.

He threatened to launch a massive statewide agitation if the poor people are not given land pattas by the Tarun Gogoi government. “Equally, BJP is dangerous for the country. BJP is not at all good for Assam and the Assam,” said Gogoi.

It might be mentioned here that thousands of people from the far flung areas thronged at Raha Sport field early in the morning to hear Akhil Gogoi's speech and to join the march.

One held for extortion bid

Acting on a tip off , Raha police on Tuesday arrested one person for trying to extort Rs 8 lakh from one Kanak Nath of Sariohtoli village under Raha revenue circle. Narrow escape for Cong leader

Former  Congress  minister and MLA of  Batadrava constituency  Goutam Bora’s  Inova vehicle ( AS01 AK-1597 ) met with an accident on Sunday  noon at Dighaliati area at Raha. Fortunately, no one suffered injuries in the vehicle which met with an accident. According to police,  the minister’s car lost control all of a sudden in an effort to save a cow on the highway  and hit  another vehicle. The mishap occurred when the minister  was from Guwahati  to Batradava in Nagaon  .    

Woman murdered in Raha

A 29-year-old married woman was murdered at her residence at Uttar Petboha village under Raha P.S on Thursday night. Sharp weapon injury marks were found on the neck, breast, and stomach  of the victim,Paree Saikia. When the neighbours reached the spot, the victim was lying on the bed and she had deep slits on her throat. During the investigation by police, it was discovered that nothing was looted from the house, which led them to suspect a personal dispute as the reason. The husband of the woman was not at home when the murder took place, neighbours said. AASU leader passes away

Tapan Das , Headmaster , Nelipar Primary School and a former leader of Raha unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU)  who actively participated in Assam agitation passed away at his house at Chaparmukh following prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 54. A popular personality of the area, he was loved and respected by all sections of people for his amiable disposition. He leaves behind his wife, a son and a daughter. A pall of gloom descended at Raha and Chaparmukh as soon as the news of his demise spread. Different organisations, including Raha AASU unit have mourned Das’s demise.  

Training on soil held at Nagaon

A two days officers training programme on ‘Soil Health Card’ was organized recently at the Regional Agricultural Research Centre ( RARS ) Shillongoni, Nagaon. The training programme was sponsored by State Department of Agriculture Govt. of Assam. Body found on train at Chaparmukh

The body of a man was found on a train that arrived at Chaparmukh junction from Tinisukia on Sunday, police said. The body, found under mysterious condition, was identified as Kiranjyoti Hazarika of Philobari, Tinisukia district. According to Chaparmukh railway police, the deceased was on his way to Guwahati from Tinisulia by the Brahmaputra mail. The cause of the death is yet not confirmed.

Paralyzing bandh in Raha

Normal life remains heavily paralyzed in Raha following a 12 hour bandh by the various local organizations who are dead opposed to the proposed AIIMS in North Guwahati instead of central Assam. Roads in Raha are wearing a deserted look with vehicles refusing to ply under the impact of the bandh. Shops and markers, schools and colleges, banks and offices are remaining closed from 6 in the morning. Road blockade for AIIMS

The Nagaon-Guwahati Highway  remained closed as the Middle Assam AIIMS Demand Committee blocked the NH 37 at Raha Chariali for one and half hours on Thursday. More than 600 people including AASU, ATSU , AJYCP, KMSS, Raha unit members and Womens’ organizations blocked the highway standing on the middle of the road shouting slogans against Nagaon MP Rajen Gohain, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma ,  and the state and central government. An escalating tension grips Raha when the authorities deployed heavy security forces on Wednesday a day before the road blockade demanding the proposed AIIMS in this central Assam place instead of Changsari in the outskirt of Guwahati.
