Assam will go to the two or three phase assembly polls before April 10 next year. This was the impression of the full bench of the Election Commission which is on a two days visit to the poll bound state on Monday.
The county’s poll panel has decided to hold the polls before Bohag Bihu when all political parties categorically told the Commission on Monday. AGP, Congress, BJP, AIUDF have suggested the same period for holding the polls.
With this impression in mind, the Commission delegation is holding a meeting with DCs and SPs to take stock of the prevailing law and order situation. Then they are holding talks with chief secretary and DGP for confirmation of the dates.
Sources in New Delhi told Assam Time the Commission is expected to announce the poll schedule for Tamil Nadu, Assam and West Bengal by January end or first of February next year.
