Northeast India was shining at 31st Inter University National Youth Festival (Yuva Shatha Sambrama-2016) just concluded at the University of Mysore on February 19. The participants from 70 universities took part in 27 events such as one-act play, presentation of western group songs, western vocal (solo), classical instruments (NP), poster making contest, skit, folk tribal dance, debate and quiz competition, cartooning, clay modeling and installation, skit, classical dance and vocal, mime, photography, rangoli, mime, light vocal, folk orchestra, and mimicry.
In the photography competition, students from northeast India bagged the first and second prizes namely Miss Indranee Kalita from Tezpur University and Mr Amar Laishram Swital of Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) Guwahati.
Swital is second semester student of MA Mass Communication in the Convergent Media and Technology course at ADBU.
The winning duo had secured same prizes at the East Zone Inter University Youth Festival called “Brahmaputra Mahotsava 2016” held at Tezpur University 3-6 January 2016.
ADBU is the first Catholic University and first Don Bosco Institution to take part in the National University Youth Festival organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) with support from the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt of India.
National Inter-University Youth Festival was started in 1954 under the aegis of then Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

The Assam Don Bosco University (ADBU) had a visit from the one and only member of the Antartica Expedition 2013 from Northeast India. Rituraj Phukan from Nagaon (Assam) was part of 30 member international expedition organized by legendary Robert Swan who is the only man who has walked both to North and South Poles.Phukan who joined members from 18 countries in Robert Swan led “Inspire Antarctic Expedition 2013” addressed the ADBU students and faculty during an hour long morning session, 29 August.He spoke on “Environmental Protection and Climatic Change” with illustrations and a short film on the expedition.Phukan travelled to Antarctica last April as a team member on the 2041...
