AKRSU condemns atrocities on agitators in West Bengal

The All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU) condemned the atrocities by West Bengal police on agitators of Greater Coochbehar Peoples Association demanding statehood demand of Coochbehar in West Bengal on February 20 and demanded early release of arrested leaders of the association.

Speaking the reporters at Kalipukhuri AKRSU office on Wednesday in Kokrajhar, Hiteswar Barman president of the students union termed those atrocities on agitators was unfortunate and unwanted situation for the democratic country. The peoples of the Coochbehar blockaded the railway track demanding statehood status of Coochbehar in West Bengal, which was merged with Government of India in 1949 and since then Koch Rajbongshis are facing severe hardships in their living.He said that atrocities from police and security agencies on agitators was very condemnable and unwanted for the democratic country. Police severely lathicharge on agitators, besides arresting leaders of the association. He has demanded atrocities should be stopped and arrested leaders should be released without any condition.

Barman also slamming both BJP and Congress party in Assam said that national parties have never think welfare for the common publics and failed to fulfill their promises and assurances.

‘In the upcoming election BJP and Congress will face of defeating in the state as common voters will turn their votes to the change of society against national parties’, he added.

He also said that the Sanmilito Janagostiya Aikhya Mancha will field candidates in 19 constituencies all over the state including BTAD region in the upcoming election.He expressed his confidence that the Mancha is winning in nine contested seats and would be part of the majority party in the new government.

Security forces have claimed to arrest two linkmen of the NDFB-S from Patgaon area today in Kokrajhar district.  Acting on a tiptop information about the movement and working of linkmen, a joint team if security forces from army, CRPF and police conducted an operation and able to apprehend two persons during the raid from Kalasi under Patgaon outpost. A surrendered NDFB was killed and another received seriously injured in a clash among the group at the outfit’s camp at Sudempuri in Kokrajhar town this evening. Police said Darendra Basumatary, who is stated to be from Dotma Alengmari in Kokrajhar died on the spot when he was shot at from close range by another member of the camp Rakesh Brahma after a quarrel. Security forces apprehended  a  cadre of United Gorkha Peoples’ Organisation from Chetri Basti under Serfanguri PS today in Kokrajhar district. Based on a specific information, a joint team of  security forces belonging to Army,CRPF and Police launched an operation in the general area of Sefanguri and managed to arrest a UGPO cadre  from Chetri Basti,who is also likman of NDFB(S). The cadre was identified as Dipak Kumar Newar Pradhan,of Chetri basti. The arrested was involved in money extortion,providing administrative support to NDFB(S) cadres. BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary expressed his deep sorrow over demise of senior journalist and editor of Bodosa daily Chino Basumatary at a private hospital in Guwahati on Tuesday.   'Media fraternity lost a dedicated journalist in the state with death of Basumatary', Mohilary said.  Former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma, MLB Pramila Rani Brahma have also expressed their deepest shock over demise of Chino, who had played eye opener of Bodo newspaper in the region.  'The Bodo society as well as whole state lost great dedicated journalist, which has become unfulfilled situation in the state', the leaders added.
