Bandh peaceful

The 12 hour Central Asom bandh called by Tiwa Yuva Chatra Porishod (TYCP) passed off peacefully today in Morigaon and some parts of Nagaon district. The vehicular traffic remained off the roads during the bandh and financial institution functioned with a deserted look. No incident has been reported till writing this report.

Strike at Raha revenue circle

Along with rest of the state the work at the Raha Revenue Circle Office was paralysed today as mandals and kanungos here observing a ceasework, following the call given by the All Assam Mandal Kanungu Sanmilani in protest of their 14-point charter of demands not fulfilled by the government. The employees though attended in the office but refrained from duty which disheartened hundreds of people visited  the office today for various works. The strike which begins on Thursday will continue till December 11th next. The demands include hike in their salaries and better work environment.

Akhil warns BJP, RSS

KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi has urged the people to unmask Congress government in the state and Narendra Modi government at the Centre alleging that the common people have been bearing the brunt of a set of anti-people policies. Bike rally to spread awareness on female foetcide

A  group of 30 youths of Bikers’ Association , Raha on Saturday on the occassion of children day , set off on a bike rally to promote gender equality and spread the message of saving the girl child , to Akashiganga, a tourist spot located between Nagaon and Karbi Anglong district. The rally, which started from Raha , raised awareness on various social evils such as female foeticide, and child labour. Bikers' Association recalls 2008 blast

To commemorate the 2008 blast in state, the Bikers' Association, Raha and AASU, Raha unit on Friday evening organized a homage giving programme at the Raha chariali by lighting earthen lamps. Members of both the organizations lit earthen lamps and observed a minute silence praying for the departed souls. Illegal appointments in Raha Town Committee

An RTI enquiry filed by the Raha based correspondent of this newspaper has exposed mass corruption relating to the appointments of the officials in the Raha Town Committee ( RTC) office.The RTI reply received recently clearly exposes mass corruption in appointments of various posts at the Raha town committee office by depriving the eligible candidates. Stolen bike recovered in Raha

The Raha  Police recovered a   bike stolen from Dighaliati village under Raha police station on Monday morning. According to police the bike was  owned by one Kangkon Jyoti Bhuyan, an inhabitant of Dighaliati village. According to the information received, the bike bearing no. AS-02-G 3296 went missing  since Sunday night at around 12.55 a.m. from the owner's residence.“The stolen bike was spotted at a field covered with dense shrubs in the early hours on Monday by some locals of the area upon which the police was informed," police said. Police suspect that the bike lifters dumped the bike there failing to start it due to some technical snag. Further...

Cyclist killed

A cyclist was killed on the spot when a Maruti Swift dezire (AS-01 BD2644) hit him on NH37 at Demow near Raha, Nagaon at around 10.30 a.m on Monday.Loken Bordoloi (26 ) as identified,  was riding his cycle near the Demow bypass. he was on his way home when the Tezpur bound vehicle hit him from behind, police said.  

TLA ultras nabbed in Raha

Police nabbed two Tiwa Liberation Army insurgents from Raha when they were on an extortion drive on Saturday. Identified as Tiken Pator and Rupjyoti Bordoloi, they were caught by the local residents of Manipur Tup in Raha in the evening when they came to extort Rs 5 lakh from businessman Nur Islam. During interrogation they confessed to have come to extort money at the instance of their leader Bidyut Amseng.

12 hour bandh peaceful in Nagaon

The 12 hour Assam bandh called by AJYCP on Saturday in protest against the Central government's decision to grant entry and stay rights to Hindu migrants from Bangladesh and Pakistan, passed off peacefully in Nagaon and the neighbouring places. Though the government offices, schools and colleges remained open but no attendence was seen. The business establishments were seen closed and no vehicles were seen plying on the NH 37 here. The normal life was completely paralyzed. The movement of trains via Chaparmukh to other places was as usual at Chaparmukh junction.
