Mopin celebrated

Mopin, the most popular festival of Galo community was celebrated in a traditional fervor and religious gaiety at the Solung ground hall at Pasighat on Tuesdya. People exchanged greetings and presented traditional Popir-Dance and multi-color cultural program. Clad in their colorful traditional dresses, applied ‘Ette’ (rice flour) to fellow revelers’ faces like Holi to mark the festival and Organizing Chairman Marngu Kadu presented the mythology of Mopin. Pasighat MLA Kaling Moyong, DC Isha Khosla and ZPC Kaling Dai graced the occasion as Chief Guest, Guest of Honour and Special Guest. Nari-Koyu MLA Kento Rina also attended the event. Officers, leaders and people from all walks of life also participated to rejoice in the celebration, signifying the unity in diversity.

While greeting the people on the auspicious occasion, MLA Moyong called upon the Galo brethrens for preservation of the rich traditional culture and festivals stating that strength of the society lies in the celebration of traditional festival and can make progress in socio-economic field with ease. Such celebration is also an opportunity to reconcile ourselves to promote a sense of unity and strengthen the feelings of friendship and brotherhood, added Moyong and urged all to keep such celebrations alive that binds people together in bond of love and peace. He prayed to Mopin Goddesses for a bumper harvest and well-being of all in the universe.

Guest of Honour Isha Khosla (DC) appreciated the organizing committee for maintaining the celebration in true spirit. Mopin is celebrated every year for offering invocation to the Goddess for bumper harvest, prosperity and well being of the human race, she said adding that in order to promote unity and national integration, the different cultures need to be showcased.

Special Guest Kaling Dai (ZPC) also greeted the people and expressed hope that the occasion will usher in peace and prosperity in the society. Among others, President Tai Riso and General Secretary Tabom Kakki also spoke on the occasion.

Trees getting uprooted and falling on electrical lines, resulting in hours of power outage is a common phenomenon during monsoon. Normal power supply remains heavily interrupted on the Pasighat-Pangin power line after a huge tree fell on a powerful a electric wire on Monday. Engineers along with departmental staffs have already been pressed into restoration process. It would take two days or more to reconnect the network.  
Incessant rain for the last couple of days has paralyzed life in Pasighat and adjoining areas. Hilly rivers and streams are seen overflowing and posing a threat to road communication, paddy fields, horticulture gardens, fishponds, irrigation channels and human habitations.
