PNB donates fans, bags to students

The 122 nd formation  Day of the Punjab National Bank  ( PNB ) of India here was marked by corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives including donating  7 ceiling fans to Jongal Balahu Garh primary school , Raha to facilitate students attending their classes in comfortable way.

At a brief function on Tuesday morning, the PNB Raha Branch Manager Alakesh Bhattasaryaa  gave away the fans  to the school authority

Prior to the function held at J.B.Garh school, the PNB, Raha branch organized  another programme  at Raha Girls’ High school .The function was presided over by Kalpana Barua, Headmistress of the school and  was attended by Dhruba Das, Chairman, Raha Town committee, Mridul Hazarika, advisor, AASU Raha unit besides the teaching staffs and students of the school  . In the function , 10 girl students of the school from poor back ground were provided study materials like school bags , copies ,pens,umbrella and other essentials along with some cash towards school fees through Savings Bank A/Cs opended in their name under “ PNB LADLI “ programme for popularization of education among the girl child.

Addressing  the students, Alakesh Bhattasaryaa,  Bank  Manager, PNB, Raha  appreciated the role of the teachers for running such like institutions for the betterment of children in particular and society in general. He assured the students that the bank would always try to help and give every possible support to the schools  so that no child feels any disadvantage for getting proper education. He,  in detail, explained to the students about the Bank Education Loan and Student Deposit Scheme

Kalpana Barua in her speech, thanked the PNB , Raha branch  for this gesture. She  added that PNB through its CSR programmes is doing appreciable work in providing a helping hand to not only to the students but also schools.

It might be mentioned here that  Punjab National Bank, India’s first Swadeshi Bank, commenced its operation on April 12 , 1895 at Lahore. The far sighted visioneries and patriots like Lala Lajpat Rai, E.C. Jessawala, Babu Kali Prasanna Roy and others showed courage in giving expression to the sprit of nationalism by establishing the bank purely managed by the Indians and Indian capital. That was the beginning of the journey of Punjab National Bank, popularly known as PNB.Today, PNB with a network of 6899 branches and 9473 ATMs, stands tall amongst  nationalized  banks in India.

An assistant teacher named, Nepal Sarmah of Haiborgaon Adarsha Vidyalaya was suspended recently by an order by the Inspector of Schools, Nagaon district. 5 persons were killed in a tragic road accident when the Indigo car they were travelling hit with a concreate wall by the NH -37 , at Phulaguri under Raha Police station. UDPF ( United Democratic Peoples' Front ) has called 36 hour Assam bandh from 5 am on December 14 to 5 pm on December 15 demanding a separate state for the people of Bodo community.
In an official order issued by the Superintendent of Police ( S P ) Nagaon district, Nitul Gogoi suspended seven police personnels on November 27 due to the negligence of duty entrusted upon them. According to information, the suspended police personnels were Purnakanta Bora, Safiqur Rahman, Padmadhor Nath, Giyasuddin, Prafulla Deka, Bhupen Saikia, and Brichitra Bora. It is known that they were engaged to the security of State Bank of India Lumding branch and United Bank respectively.
The down-to-dusk Assam bandh called by the banned United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) passed of peacefully in Nagaon district. The bandh was called in protest against the arrest of two of its top leaders, Sasha Choudhury and Chitraban Hajarika. The 12 - hour bandh paralysed the normal life in and around Nagaon. Popularly known as blood painter amongst the natives, Gautam Bardhan who has been drawing 97 sketches and pictures till date by using own blood on different occasions was awarded prestigious 'Avantika Rastriya Sadbhawana Samman at Hindi Bhawan, Bishnu Digambar Marg, Delhi on October 9, 2009. The 10 hrs Nagaon bandh called by Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Parishad, Nagaon unit on October 19 against the rising prices of essential commodities received the full support from all section of people of Nagaon.
