Tearful farewell to Anjan Dutta

The mortal remains of Anjan Dutta were consigned to flames on Friday a day after the APCC president died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi. After last respect to the lifeless former minister in Guwahati and Sivasagar, Dutta’s body was taken to Gaurisagar where he was cremated with full state honour in the afternoon. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma, MP Ripun Bora were prominent among those who were present at the cremation ground. Before that thousands of bereaved Congress men received Dutta’s body at the Jorhat Airport in the morning and was taken to Sivasagar to facilitate his fans to pay their last respect in Sivasagar town and his birth place Gayan gaon.

Dutta died of cardiac ailment on Thursday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Science a couple of weeks after he was rushed to it. The party in rank and file have condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

The city based Wintrobe hospital on Saturday conducted the 'Evening with a Doctor' program at Guwahati Press Club, where Dr Nitin Gupta (Urology) provided free consultations to the GPC members along with their close relatives. Staff nurses Sumi Rajbongshi and Dipti Boro supported the doctor in conducting the camp. The next Saturday evening OPD will witness the presence of Dr Madan Mohan Reddy, senior consultant on orthopedic surgery from Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. The participants will get free consultations on various ailments like back-neck- knee pain, major fractures, arthritis or requiring knee & hip replacements etc.
A group of hardcore insurgents from three outfits is believed to have been hiding in a dense jungle along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Tinsukia district. According to sources, the militants from Myanmar have been camping in the jungle to change the R 500 and R 100o note following the change in the monetary policy. These militants are suspected to have attacked the army convoy in Tinsukia on Saturday where three army men were killed and another struggling with death. Amid cash crunch voters in Lakhimpur Lok Sabha constitution are exercising their franchise to elect a new MP on Saturday.
