NDFB-S condemns Chirang arrest

The National Democratic Front of Boroland (Songbijit faction) has strongly reacted and condemned the arrest of four persons for their alleged links with the militant outfit yesterday by Chirang police.

In a statement issued to the media on Tuesday, the NDFB-S general secretary BR Ferengga said the NDFB and UNLF of Western South East Asia have strongly condemned the Assam police for the arrest.

“It is a baseless and false allegation imposed upon Jitendra Narzary, the principal of Tukrajhar Higher Secondary School and Pradip Narzary, teacher of Bengtol MV (Middle Vernacular) school” he said adding “Even I feel very proud of my beloved wife Monica Basumatary due to the blame as the supporter of the NDFB and arrested her allegedly. It increases my courage and perseverance to stand in the name of the Boro nation which is another greatest encourage of my life’ he added.

Chirang police have on Monday arrested four persons, included Jitendra Narzary, principal of Tukrajhar HS school, Pradip Narzary, an assistant teacher of Bengtol MV school, Monica Basumatary, a grade IV employee of Bengtol Junior College and wife of NDFB (S) general secretary along with another suspect Pinkush Narzary, of being overground workers of the banned rebel NDFB-S.

Police said that during interrogation it has come to light that through Social Media networking site Facebook Ranjit Basumatary @ BR Ferrenga, General Secretary of banned organisation NDFB-S created some fake accounts and established contact with Pinkush and motivated and instructed him to collect extortion money in Bengtol area. Subsequently he collected Rs 31000 from one Pradip Narzary, Asst Teacher in Bengtol MV School and Rs 12865 from one Jitendra Narzary, who is Principal Tukrajhar HS School. The money was further handed over to Monica Basumatary ,wife of Ranjit Basumatary @ Ferrenga who passed it on to the banned organisation.

They have been arrested on charges of terror financing and stringent provisions of UAP Act have been invoked.

Total 4 mobile phones and Rs 13000 extorted cash has been recovered.

BR Ferenga in the statement further said that finally denouncing the implicit of Assam police would asked the state government to ‘stay away from suppressive and oppressive rule over the innocent Boro people by harassing them in the name of our organisation’, statement stated.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar.
