Opp flays Governor’s address

From Assam Assembly, Guwahati:

The Opposition has come sown heavily on the Assam Government for its failure on all fronts. Reacting to the Assam Governor’s address on the floor of the House on Monday morning, the Opposition leaders have alleged that the Governor’s address failed to bring real picture. They say the vital issue confronting the state have been downplayed in the speech adding that the entire speech is a traditional ineffective one. Notably, the governor had to cut short his address due to the din following the trading of charges and counter charges among the members of both the ruling and Opposition sides.

A unique educational programme for unsuccessful students

Paresh Baishya Foundation organized a unique programme named "Prerona" for the unsuccessful students in the last HSLC exam. The inaugural programme was held at Guwahati Press Club on June 26. Radhika Mohan Bhagabati, eminent Journalist inaugurated the programme. Dr. Md. Taher, educationist, Dr. Dipesh Bhagabati, eminent Psychiatrist of Guwahati Medical College, Thaneswar Malakar, Director Minorities Devolopment Board, Assam and Dr. Basanta Kumar Das Former Secretary SEBA attended the meeting as guests of honour. Prof. Naren Sarma Presided over the function. On this occaision a book under title "Safalatar Mantra" edited by Paresh Baishya was released.

Despite vigorous rescue operation by SDRF team, there is no trace of the seven people who are feared to have met watery grave in Dhubri on Thursday.

SDRF team finds it quite difficult to concentrate the search operation in the face of the strong flood currents in Elengi where the incident took place on Thursday afternoon.

Three people have been rescued minutes after the incident where flood waters in Elengi washed away a vehicle carrying 11 people including 5 children from Bilasipara.

Setback for CBI’s Saradha probe

Shankar Baruah’s “unfortunate death” is a set back for CBI probe into the Saradha scam where the former DGP was an accused. Barua, who shot himself to death on Wednesday, was an important part of the probe into the multi crore scam. According to sources, Barua played a big role to provide security to Saradha chief Sudipta Sen and his close associates. A former minister and Baruah had several rounds of late night meetings with Sen and one of his close associate mediated by Sadananda Gogoi who is in CBI custody. The conspiracy took final shap when Baruah met Sudipta Sen at the initiatives of Sadananda Gogoi---closed to Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma.
