Hundreds of Gorkha peoples from four districts of BTAD region throng to participate in a three-hour sit-in-demonstration agitation programme on Monday at DRDA parking ground near DC office demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, recognition of Original Inhabitant (OI) status in NRC, nominate members from Gorka community in BTC council.

Agitators with banner,placards,fetoone participated the demonstration and shouted slogans demanding early granting ST status,OI status in NRC update, which was organized by Assam Gorka Sammelan, BTAD regional committee. The agitators voice sky wave with shoutings-‘No ST No Rest’, Gorkhas should be regarded as OI citizens in Assam nominate a member from Gorkha community in BTC council. The Sammelan submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister through Deputy Commissioner, Kokrajhar seeking early ST status to Gorkha community in Assam. The Sammelan warn to take vigorous mass agitation if their demands are not meet as early in coming days.

Laksmhi Sedai,president of the Sammelan told that the Grokahs are indigenous peoples of the state with own culture, identity and language because Gorkhas have been dwelling peacefully in Assam since time of immemorial as defense personnel, a few government officials and academicians, cattle breeders etc in all spheres of Assam. He has demanded the Gorkhas should get early ST status to meet healthy development I the state. He expressed serious concern over tactically non granting OI status to Gorkha community in NRC update in Assam, besides keeping community on confusion with marking non-original inhabitants.

He has put demand of OI status for Gorkha community while filling NRC update. He has also demanded a member should be nominated from Gorkha community in BTC council to represent community with development aspects.

“We started our agitation from Kokrajhar to the cause of ST status, OI in NRC update, nomination of a member from Gorkha in BTC council. We put demands to the higher authority and government to meet early fulfillment,other wise mass agitation will be initiated in days to coming. Government deprived Gorkha community from all fronts of development as well ST status since long years back. The government should take stern measure to fulfill community’s issues and aspects”,Sedai said.

It is my pride, to read the above article which is appreciated. Gorkhas are the key element for peace and prosperity of the soil. Even though, they are still struggling for their identification and their own home land. Each Gorkha has to be motivated, through a spirit of friendship and mutual understanding among themselves and communities around. In addition, walk together and work together to reach to great destination with a fruitful result. I would say, peace does whatever we want. So much thanks to my dear brothers and sisters.

Kokrajhar: A section of angry residents in Kokrajhar thrashed a ration dealer accusing him of resorting to unfair deal with the beneficiaries. The incident took place on Friday where a group of beneficiaries from Ghoskata village caught the dealer Budu Brahma alias Sahen Basumatary and charged him of deliberately doing anomalies in the distribution of rations through cooperative societies where the real beneficiaries were reprieved.  According to the beneficiaries, most of them out of nearly 320 APL and BPL card holders have not been receiving due quantity of rice, sugar and kerosene. Kokrajhar: The publishers and sellers have renewed their decisions. They will not halt their strike. "Now its time for a massive and indefinite strike in protest against the government's policy for publishing and distributing school books free of cost among the students. KOKRAJHAR:Yet another NDFB-S rebel has landed in police dragnet who was arrested in Baksa district on Saturday. Acting on a tip off, Balsa police launched a sudden operation at Bennabari area where the rebel, identified as Rabiram Swargiary, was arrested. Police further claimed to gave seized a hand grenade from his possession. Interrogation is going on to extract the i formation on the whereabouts of other rebels who are believed to have been moving in the BTAD areas.
NALBARI: Six persons of a family were killed when the car in which they were travelling slipped into a deep gorge in Nalbari district on Saturday. The incident took place in the afternoon when the entire family members were on their way back to home after visiting a relative. As the car reached Balikuchi area, the driver of the car lost control over the vehicle which slipped into the gorge which was deep. There was no survivor. Local residents and police came to rescue them. But nobody was found alive.
KOKRAJHAR: The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam has alleged political patronage behind the recent shoot out in Bogidhola tea garden where 12 workers hurt in firing by the owner. Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar on Saturday, AASAA president Stephen Lakra said without political support or behind powerful minister and MLA the owner could not have gone to that extent. KOKRAJHAR: A mysterious death of a woman in Kokrajhar no less spreads sensation in Sesapani area from Monday morning. The Adivasi women was found dead in a house where she has been staying for the last three days. Police rushed to the house where the mother of two children was found dead under mysterious circumstances. But by then Insaf Ali, in whose house the woman stayed vanished. Local residents called it an incident of killing since Insaf had an illecit affair with the Adivasi woman who worked with a tea garden.
Kokrajhar,Dec 11: Despite round-the-clock vigil, Bangladeshi immigrants keep coming from across the border without any hindrance. Kokrajhar police have arrested yet another immigrant after he was picked up by local residents in Duramari area in Koktajhar whom a local court sent to the jail on Monday. Identified as Alamin Islam, the 19 year old immigrant driver told police that he came to the area by Rajdhani Express a couple of days back. He could not produce any identity proof before disclosing that he hailed from Kanai Bortola near Chari Chikka College, Muktagacha Satraisia, Muktagacha (PO) of Mymensingh district of  Bangladesh.
