Luitpar Club in Narengi Campus of Oil India Limited recently organized a unique initiative for encouraging reading habit among the residents, primarily the young people in the colony. The club supplied various books in Assamese, English, Hindi and Bengali language to the households under Rasaraj Lakshminath Bezbaruah mobile library.
The program was launched by journalist Nava Thakuria on 21 July in presence of Luitpar Club president, its secretary Narayan Majumder, senior members including Padmeswar Kalita, Haren Sarma, Jadav Kalita, Tapas Bhattacharya, Hira Rajbongshi etc.

JORHAT:Union minister Nitin Gadkari is ailing. Gadkari, who is on a two days visit to the state fell ill suddenly as he was attending a function to unveil the ₹237 crore project of the Brahmaputra Board in Majuli. When chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal was addressing the meeting, the Union water resources development minister complained of uneasyness on the stage. GUWAHATI: The Asom Sahitya Sabha is all set to get Dr Paramananda Rajbangsi as its president. The state's largest literary body conducted a ballot voting recently at its headquarters in Jorhat where Rajbangshi topped the choice of the electorates. The electorates further voted Dr Hemanta Kumar Baruah as vice president while Padum Rajkhowa has been elected as the principal Secretary of the organization. TINSUKIA: Security forces claimed to have apprehended a hardcore ULFA(I) rebel in Tinsukia district who was believed to have been camping in a remote village to extort money. Acting on a tip off, army, police and para military forces raided a hamlet in Pangery where Rajiv Moran, a dreaded rebel was arrested. Police further seized a pistol from his possession. GUWAHATI:A local court in Guwahati on Thursday ordered five year rigorous imprisonment to a corrupt forest officer three months after he was arrested on graft charges. He is none other than Mahat Talukdar, the District Forest Officer in Dhemaji whom the chief minister's anti corruption and vigilence cell caught red handed accepting graft. The special court which convicted him under the Prevention of Corruption Act has imposed him ₹45 lakh as fine in two cases registered against him. He was caught three months back and the vigilance cell seized crores of rupees in cash from his office chamber and residence.

Identified as Mausumi Bora, she was arrested from the Lamb Road at a stones throw distance from the Gauhati High Court where she attends.
