In a bizarre move that leaves the BJP-led government red faced on the floor on Monday, AGP thrashed the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for the controversial move on the Hindu Bangladeshi nationals.
Former Chief Minister and AGP leader PK Mahanta said that he was dead opposed to the move and that it would be an insult to the spirit of Assam Accord.
However, AGP president Atul Bora who holds the agriculture minister looked very disappointed when his predecessor rose to speak on the controversial move to give refugee status for the Hindu nationals of the neighbouring countries.

Why Can't they go and settle in west bengal? Assam is already a semi-bengal. Mahanta did a good job by raising his opinion. Ruling the govt doesn't mean you don't have a voice against election manifesto.

The trouble seems to have spread beyond Kokrajhar and Sonitpur a day after the carnage that left around 70 killed on Tuesday. The militants unleashed yet another reign of terror in Udalguri leaving an Adivasi man injured on Wednesday. The incident took place in the evening when the militants started indiscriminate firing at a village where one person sustained injury. They further set ablaze several houses after the panic stricken people fled from their homes fearing attack. The injured is battling with death in the hospital. Union home minister Rajnath Singh is visiting the trouble hit area of Kokrajhar and Sonitpur districts to take stock of the situation on Thursday. Accompanied by his minister of state Kiren Rijiju, the union minister is scheduled to talk to the victims’ family members and panic-stricken people in the relief camps set up in both the districts. The Assam government has confirmed that the death toll in the serial NDFB-S serial attacks in Sonitpur, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts has gone up to 68. According to chief minister Tarun Gogoi, the dreaded attack took place in two places in Sonitpur where the toll stands at 37.He said that 25 others were killed in Kokrajhar district while the toll in Chirang district is 3. The deceased included 21 women and 18 children.Senior ministers Nilamani Sen Deka and Basanta Das have been camping in Kokrajhar district and Chirang while Rockybul Hussain, Prithbi Majhi and Tanka Bahadur Rai are monitoring the situation in Sonitpur district.
