In a bizarre move that leaves the BJP-led government red faced on the floor on Monday, AGP thrashed the Narendra Modi Government at the Centre for the controversial move on the Hindu Bangladeshi nationals.
Former Chief Minister and AGP leader PK Mahanta said that he was dead opposed to the move and that it would be an insult to the spirit of Assam Accord.
However, AGP president Atul Bora who holds the agriculture minister looked very disappointed when his predecessor rose to speak on the controversial move to give refugee status for the Hindu nationals of the neighbouring countries.

Why Can't they go and settle in west bengal? Assam is already a semi-bengal. Mahanta did a good job by raising his opinion. Ruling the govt doesn't mean you don't have a voice against election manifesto.

Dhaka is waiting for early settlement of the land deal with New Delhi. This was what Bangladesh high commissioner in India Tariq A. Karim said in Guwahati. In his interaction at a FICCI function in the city on Wednesday, he said that said ratification of the India-Bangladesh Land Boundary Agreement is the only way to help both the countries solve the problem of illegal migration. He further said it would help India and Bangladesh boost bilateral ties. Karim said ratification of the land boundary agreement is in India’s own interest.
The Centre has assured the Assam government of all help to deal with the flood fury that claimed 30 people during the last four days.In his telephonic conversation with chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday, Union home minister Rajnath Singh said that the Centre would extend all possible assistance to the state for rescue and relief of flood-affected areas.Rescue and relief teams operations are underway at Boko, Goalpara, Guwahati, Sonitpur, North Lakhimpur, Tinsukia and Dhemaji.

The flood toll has gone up to 14 during the last three days. The toll in Goalpara alone stands at 8 after cloudburst wreaked havoc in the Assam-Meghalaya border on Monday. Of them, 4 were women. Ten HS and HSLC toppers this year are all set to leave for USA on a 12 day educational tour next month. Courtesy Dispur. The Assam government is making all arrangement to take the toppers to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).According to an official statement, the entire tour will be sponsored by the 'Deba Kumar Bora Memorial NASA Visit 2014' for the first three HSLC toppers and first position holder of 12th standard in each of Arts, Science and Commerce streams.During the 12 days tour, the students would be taken to John F Kennedy Space Centre, University of Florida, AT&T Bell laboratory, Benz manufacturing factory, and visit Washington and New York cities.
