Garlabata Basumatary remembered in Kokrajhar

The influential All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and Bodo society recalled contributions of Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary, former president of ABSU, who had dedicated his life towards development and uplift of Bodo community, on his 16th death anniversary at Shyamtaibari village in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

The anniversary was organized under the aegis of Ramfalbill Anchalik ABSU in association with Garlabata Basumatary Public Charitable Trust (GBPCT) at his burial place with a daylong pragramme. As a part of the programme, Pranay Kumar Brahma, trust chairman hoisted the trust flag in the morning followed by homage to the tomb paid by his widow Raktima Basumatary.

Garlabata was shot at by armed miscreant near Serfanguri petrol pump in 1999 and died on September 7 in 2000 having serious bullet injury. Garlabata Basumatary holds president ship of ABSU in 1992-1995 and involved with mass movement for separate Bodoland state. He was also president of the then Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) party formed in 1996 and holds this post till his death.

Doneswar Goyary, BTC executive member paid floral tribute to late Basumatary attending as chief guest on the occasion. BTC member Jyotirindra Brahma, leaders from ABSU, ABWWF,Tribal sangha,BPF women wing, citizens from irrespective of organizations paid homage to Basumatary.

Goyary said Basumatary was a leader of visionary, who led Bodoland movement along with Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma to seek separate homeland.

Jyotirindra Brahma,BTC MCLA recalling Basumatary’s contribution towards the awakening of Bodo community during the UN Brahma’s led mass movement for separate Bodoland state said he was a high think thank leader of Bodos along other Bodo leaders.

He was a leader of extraordinary of the union as well as Bodo community. Late Basumatary dreamt to form a great master race Bodo nation in the world but his mission and vision could not successful due to untimely demise,Brahma added.

Raktima Basumatary, widow of Basumatary tearfully said she remembered her husband on his anniversary as irrespective of citizens’ throng to paid floral tribute. She said that tomb of her husband be developed and make grand celebration so that coming generation be recalled his ideology and philosophy among society in coming days.

Daoharu Mungkhlong football tournament to begin from Sep 22

The 22nd Daoharu Mungkhlong Football Trophy 2019 is going to start from September 22 at Dotma HS School ground, Kokrajhar. An organising committee was formed with Sangkharlal Brahma as president and Dahit Chandra Brahma as secretary. Mass protest demanding separate Bodoland

"Create separate Bodoland statehood under Article 2 & 3 of Indian constitution through political dialogue, otherwise face strong mass agitations",said president of All Bodo Student's Union (ABSU) Pramod Boro. Cattle smugglers arrested

Police launched a crackdown on illegal cattle smugglers and arrested ten persons on Thursday evening at Srirampur area in Kokrajhar district. Police apprehended a truck bearing registration number AS-01GC-3837 carrying 16 cattle illegally from West Bengal bound for Bangladesh via Meghalaya. Police  also arrested Arun Lyngdoh and Munna Saikia alias Ikram Hussain, president and secretary of the All India Livestocks Trader and Transporters Association, as they were escorting the illegal cattle truck. Doctors stage protest

Members from Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kokrajhar branch has carried out a candle light rally in Kokrajhar town on Tuesday evening in protest against the brutal killing of Dr Deben Dutta, a doctor in Teok tea estate hospital. The rally was started from Kokrajhar RNB civil hospital complex traversed to RNB Road, JD Road,fly over and concluded at the same point. Medical fraternities have strongly protested the brutally attack and killing of Dr Dutta. Doctor and medical staffs participated the rally with banner, placards and demanded strict actions to the culprits. Daimary welcomes NRC final draft

Rajya Sabha MP Biswajeet Daimary welcomes the publication of the NRC final draft. Daimary said that the state of Assam has now got an opportunity to see illegal immigrants free state. The NRC authority has published the draft lists on Saturday. He said that 19.06 lakh people's names were dropped out from the final draft lists. Daimary said that the peoples whose names were dropped from the lists, they are illegal immigrants or foreigners because they couldn't show their proper citizenship related documents.

Kokrajhar ready for NRC

KOKRAJHAR: Citizens of the state are much awaited to see the final draft of NRC publication on Saturday . Along with rest of the state, BTAD districts are all set to publish the final draft of NRC with smooth and healthy environment. In Kokrajhar, NRC final draft would be published in 97 NRC Seva Kendra (NSK) in the entire district. A total 48 NSK have been identified as sensitive centre out of the 97 NSK. Demand for smaller states growing

KOKRAJHAR: The National Federation of New State (NFNS) has demanded early creation of new smaller states within Indian constitution.  NFNS include  Bodoland, Gorkhaland, Vidharbha, Kuki state, Bundelkhand, Purbanchal and Kari Anglong autonomous state.
