Garlabata Basumatary remembered in Kokrajhar

The influential All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and Bodo society recalled contributions of Daoharu Garlabata Basumatary, former president of ABSU, who had dedicated his life towards development and uplift of Bodo community, on his 16th death anniversary at Shyamtaibari village in Kokrajhar district on Wednesday.

The anniversary was organized under the aegis of Ramfalbill Anchalik ABSU in association with Garlabata Basumatary Public Charitable Trust (GBPCT) at his burial place with a daylong pragramme. As a part of the programme, Pranay Kumar Brahma, trust chairman hoisted the trust flag in the morning followed by homage to the tomb paid by his widow Raktima Basumatary.

Garlabata was shot at by armed miscreant near Serfanguri petrol pump in 1999 and died on September 7 in 2000 having serious bullet injury. Garlabata Basumatary holds president ship of ABSU in 1992-1995 and involved with mass movement for separate Bodoland state. He was also president of the then Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) party formed in 1996 and holds this post till his death.

Doneswar Goyary, BTC executive member paid floral tribute to late Basumatary attending as chief guest on the occasion. BTC member Jyotirindra Brahma, leaders from ABSU, ABWWF,Tribal sangha,BPF women wing, citizens from irrespective of organizations paid homage to Basumatary.

Goyary said Basumatary was a leader of visionary, who led Bodoland movement along with Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma to seek separate homeland.

Jyotirindra Brahma,BTC MCLA recalling Basumatary’s contribution towards the awakening of Bodo community during the UN Brahma’s led mass movement for separate Bodoland state said he was a high think thank leader of Bodos along other Bodo leaders.

He was a leader of extraordinary of the union as well as Bodo community. Late Basumatary dreamt to form a great master race Bodo nation in the world but his mission and vision could not successful due to untimely demise,Brahma added.

Raktima Basumatary, widow of Basumatary tearfully said she remembered her husband on his anniversary as irrespective of citizens’ throng to paid floral tribute. She said that tomb of her husband be developed and make grand celebration so that coming generation be recalled his ideology and philosophy among society in coming days.

One drowns at Hell River

A 17-year-old youth has died and another his colleague was rescued after drowning at Hell River at Fakiragram in Kokrajhar. Bineswar Brahma remembered

Bodo sahitya sabha and Bodo peoples remembered former president of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha late Bineswar Brahma on his 19th death anniversary on Monday at his burial place Chandamari in Kokrajhar. Brahma was shot by armed militant cadres at his Bhetapara residence in Guwahati in 2000. Six arrested for Witchcraft case in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Police arrested six persons for involved in a witchcraft case at Jhornagra village, Kokrajhar. Police registered a case in this regard themselves. Last Thursday, the village committee of Jhornagra village ordered Badreswar Rabha and his family members to leave the village within a week on suspicion of practicing witchcraft. As soon as Kokrajhar police came to know about the incident, they rescued the family and apprehended six persons including a VDP secretary on Friday evening. Ganja seized

KOKRAJHAR: Kokrajhar police seized 1.80 quintles of ganja illegally carrying in a truck and arrested the driver near Karigaon national highway on Thursday. He was identified as Shyam Kumar Mahato of Bihar. The truck came from Agartala and bound for West Bengal. Police brought the seized under its custody and interogation is on. Police said that market value of the sized Ganja would be amounting of nearly 20 lakhs.

Adhyasradhya of ex MP Charan Narzary

KOKRAJHAR: Adhya sradhya of former MP Charan Narzary is going to be held at his Hatimata residence in Kokrajhar town on Sunday. Narzary breathed his last on July 23 due to age ailments. He was the founding general secretary of the Plains Tribal Council of Assam (now defunct), former MLA from Kokrajhar east, former professor in Kokrajhar Govt College and associated with several organization. NDFB-S cadre held in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: Security forces apprehended a hard-core cadre of the National Democratic Front of Boroland-Saoraigwra faction (NDFB-S) on Friday from Samukha Nala area under Bishmuri police outpost in Kokrajhar district. The arrested cadre was identified as Dipak Basumatary @ B. Dwibai @Jolo (23) of Maina Nagar near Bishmuri. He was a Myanmar trained hardcore NDFB(S) cadre of 42nd batch and a member of the Batha Group. One 7.65 mm pistol, a magazine, two live rounds and cash 200 were recovered from his possession. Japanese Enchapalitis claims one in Kokrajhar

KOKRAJHAR: One person died in Kokrajhar due to Japanese Enchapalitis (JE) on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Rijendra Nath Brahma (72) of Patakata, Kokrajhar district. Brahma was admitted to MRM hospital, Kokrajhar on Sunday. He breathed his last on Monday morning. Earlier, he was discharged from Apollo hospital Guwahati where he was treated for Japanese Enchapalitis. Brahma was a retired block education officer. Four dead in road accident in Alipurduar

KOKRAJHAR: Four persons of a family died and three others have received serious injuries at a road mishap at Nimti national highways under Kalsini police station in Alipurduar of West Bengal on Monday morning. The  family hailed from Salakati Bazar of Kokrajhar district which had met accident with a truck while on their way to Kokrajhar from Jalpaiguri.
