International day of girl child observed

The Believers Church Bongaigaon Diocese observed the International Day of the Girl Child on Tuesday at Sudempur Kachugaon public ground with daylong programme scheduled in Kokrajhar district.

Believers Church is led Dr. K.P. Yohannan the Metropolitan at Synod, Thiruvalla of Kerala. The Church believes that the parents and certain prejudice societies,who has for some reason a discrimination margin made between boy and girl child in matters of education, health care, heir, job and social portfolio and so on must be shunned.

For regardless of religion, caste and creed is the God is creator of both boy and girl with unique vary organ and both are responsible for creating wholesome society whereby one less treated is demining God’s very purpose of creation.

Dr. Anjali Daimary, represented Boro people at United Nation’s permanent forum on Indigenous Issues in New York, USA in 2007-08, president of Bodo Women Justice Forum and Wilburn S Daimary(ACS) Additional Deputy Commissioner of Gosaigaon sub-divison were present.

Dr Daimary said, “ The highest forum UNO has set this day on 11th October 2012 with the aim to bring an wholesome development of girls with equal rights along with boy child and specially when the girl child reach her age 11 to 18 years. It is parents’ responsibility to provide the equal love and need when they are at their grown up stage. This will eliminate the social injustice that occurs towards mainly girl child. Let us begin it from home.”

Wilburn S Daimary has appreciated the church making suck remarkable event which is very timely.

On the occasion 5000 mosquito nets were also distributed as a part of Community Development Project from the church.

Rev.Fr. Ajay Tulsiary, the Vicar General of Bongaigaon Diocese, Fr. Soma Kinduar, Fr. Dhananjay Nokman and Deacon Balen Basumatary were prominent attendees on the occasion.

Apurna Narzary, an international women's football player, has been nominated for the Emerging Player award for 2022-23 by the Sports & Youth Welfare department of the government of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). Narzary has represented India in several international events and is the daughter of Biswajit Narzary of Khagrabari village in Kokrajhar district. The award will be presented to her during the Baokhungri festival celebration at Baokhungri Hill site near Harinaguri in Kokrajhar.
