AMSU demands autonomous council for char areas

The AMSU (Assam Minority Student Union) president Mr.Abdul Aziz in a press statement strongly demanded an Autonomous Council for the ‘Char’ areas of 23 Sub-Division of 14 districts which is being suspected to be a part of alleged conspiracy of ISI to establish ‘Brihattar Bangladesh’ comprising ‘Char’ areas of the different districts of Assam. The demand made by AMSU is being considered to be ‘first step’ towards bringing up ‘Brihttar Bangladesh.’ The districts in question are Dhubari, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Nagaon, Marigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Tinsukia, Dhemaji, Kamrup, Darang. The total villages said to be are 2,251 comprising the population of 24,90,097. AMSU President is reported to have said in his statement that the AMSU was of the view that without administrative power of their own, no social, political and cultural development is possible. Moreover Aziz asked AASU, AJUCP, YUWA MORCHA (BJP) etc. how it was possible for Bangladeshi citizen to enter Assam through border when the strong Indian force like BSF and other security agencies were deployed there to make a constant and alert watch. These organizations were baselessly saying that hundreds of Bangladeshi citizens were migrating into Assam, Aziz added. However Aziz while accepting that a few numbers of Bangladeshi citizens are there in Assam said that the youth organizations of the state specially the AASU leaders instead of making baseless allegation if came out and made efforts to identify the illegal foreigners the AMSU was ready to cooperate with them. But in the name of identifying the illegal Bangladeshis the harassment being meted out upon Indian citizens that would not be tolerated. In this connection aziz along with other AMSU leaders proposed to led a delegation to Delhi on 24 August to apprise the central Government about the problems and to meet UPA Chair person Sonia Gandhi to look into the matter and discuss at party level.
