Weightlifter Monica Devi was on Saturday cleared off all doping charges by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). The clearance came after IOA found that the charges leveled against the athlete were false and an attempt to malign her image. After Monica Devi's allegation that she was being framed, Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh stepped in and approached the Prime Minister Office, thus paving the way for the weightlifter's return.
The clearance brought momentary relief for the athlete; however, as the IOA said that it was too late for her to fly to Beijing.

I watch this Olympics without a single reason to cheer as many of my compatriots would be - there's hardly a representation for a country of more than a billion - we keep sending old horses like Leander Paes and Dola Banerjee to work a miracles and a handful of young sportsmen whose dream ends with the participation. Even if we get a bronze I think we might declare a national holiday. As a nation we are so obsessed with Bollywood and Cricket that we either see Amir Khan carrying the Olympics torch or Sachin Tendulkar. I think next time we should send a dozen Bollywood stars and a T20 team to take part in the various events - even though we would make a donkey out of ourselves - a billion Indians would have a reason to watch and cheer. Funny how we have sent 4 representatives of the Hockey fed to watch and learn on taxpayer's money even when both men's and women's team disgracefully didn't qualify. Mr. Kalmadi must have been working very hard in his office. I'm sure he's planning a watch and learn trip around the world starting from Trinidad and Tobago that wins more medals than India.

The hegemony of some states over the weaker state is proved too in the sport arena in India. Manipur is representing a good number of participants in Olympic. Monica is a proud daughter of the seven sisters. Let us all be with her in fighting for justice.The issue is nothing but a usual scam prevalent in India. Is anyone ready to booked the culprit?

Even China is not a homogenous society, but for the Olympics they have chosen the best from its different regions. Why is it that such injustice as done to Monica Singh takes place in India?

I wonder why any other News websites,dailies and channels do not publish that dope charge has been cleared though they all publish with enthusiasm publish Monica Devi failed in doping test in their front page... Why don't they print that It was false charges? Who and all were involved must be punished. Else India will remain a Country who will be overjoyed when winning a single medal or none for each Olympic.. Let this incidence be the last. This is a country where Mahatama Gandhi was born. A full grown male elephant is believed to have died in fight with another elephant in the Kaziranga National Park on Sunday. The carcass was spotted in Agaratoli range by a patrolling forest personnel. Forest official suspected that there was something amiss in the park after they heard sounds of animals and noticed unusual behaviour among other animals since Friday evening. The carcass was sent for postmortem. The incident was rare and forest officials were looking into it. Meanwhile, a group of four elephants came out of the Mikirjan camp of the park under Kohora range and injured two persons, damaged seven houses and the Japori Pathar Anganwadi Centre.
Five persons of a family have been found ill after they ate chapattis in Jorhat district on Sunday. The five member family of Ward No 2 of Jorhat town complained of stomach ache, nausea and vomiting after they had their dinner last night and were admitted to the Jorhat Medical College Hospital.
The family members complained that the chapatti tasted bitter and could have been contaminated. The members have been identified as Piyolal Banik, Chandana Banik, Sanjoy Banik, Gitu Banik and Babu Banik. Yet another earthquake jolted Assam and its neighbouring states on Sunday triggering panic among the people. The mild tremor shook the state at 8-32 in the evening in Guwahati where people tried to come out of their houses fearing huge damage. But the tremor lasted only for a few seconds.
Three persons died and seven others injured in a bus accident in Goalpara district on Sunday. The accident took place when the high speeding bus, which was on its way from Goalpara town to Guwahati, jumped off the road and fell in a ditch near Chandamari under the Aagiya police station. The National Human Rights Commission will dispatch a delegation to hold a three-day camp sitting in Assam and Meghalaya from May 28 to reach out to far-flung areas. Led by its chairman Justice (Retd) K G Balakrishnan, the camp will aims at disposing pending cases by hearing senior government officers, sensitise them about importance of human rights issues and compliance of NHRC recommendations, meet local NGOs and brief media for wider dissemination of information on human rights issues.

Police claimed to have seized a huge quantity of explosives from two persons in Cachar district on Saturday.These were intercepted during a routine patrolling where the two youths were arrested from Joypur area under Lakhipur police station. These explosives include 600 gelatin sticks, 340 electronic detonators, 2,300 non-electronic detonator and 192 metre long fuse wire. The duo revealed that they were taking the explosives to Tamenglong for blasting rock-hill but the police suspect that the consignment was actually meant for supplying it to Naga militants in Manipur.
