Various organizations and individuals thronged his residence at Pathsala in Barpeta district to pay their last respect to the lifeless theatre personality.
A three day special Assam assembly session from Monday will pass the Assam Goods Services Tax, 2017 to open a new leaf in the country’ tax regime. Amid an escalating cut off year controversy the Assam Congress has written to the Centre in support of 1971 as the cut off year to detect and deport the Bangladeshi immigrants from the state. In a memorandum sent to Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday, APCC president Ripun Bora and Opposition leader Debobrata Saikia said the party would not demand 1951 as the cut off year. Kaziranga activists, Pranab Doley and Soneswar Narah from Jeepal Krishak Shramik Sangha (JKSS) have been granted bail on Friday. They were arrested by Bokakhat police on April 24 against a case filed on April 19 charging obstruction of public servants from discharging their duty and threatening to burn down a forest office. They were granted bail on Thursday, but arrested again in another case filed on April 24 on similar charges.

As many as five UDLF rebels are believed to have sustained injury when they were caught in a gun battle with security forces along Assam-Meghalaya border on Friday. The encounter took place at Damchera where a group of rebels targetted the CRPF jawans who were on patrolling duty at midnight. A few of the rebels are learnt to have injured in the half Sn hour long encounter which ended as soon as they vanished in the dense jungle. Security forces are looking holding joint operation in search of the injured rebels along the interstate border areas.

A special court in Guwahati on Wednesday remanded three ACS officers to police custody for 14 days hours after they the trio were arrested from different places in connection with the job for cash scam in the Assam Public Service Commission. Identified as Bhaskarjyoti Dev Sharma, the circle officer of Helem in Biswanath Chariali, Amit Sarma, the circle officer Sipahjar and circle officer from Nalbari Bhaskar Dutta were produced before the court seeking 14 days remand which the court allowed. Hours after the Dibrugarh police arrested three ACS officers in the cash for job scam, DGP Mukesh Sahay gave hint of action against a few other officers who allegedly procured job for money. Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Sahay said the probe into the scam was moving in right direction. Early in the morning police arrested Amitjyoti Mahanta, Bhaskarjyoti DevSarma and Bhaskar Das to be brought to Kahilipara where a team of police officer is interrogating the trio. The administration allowed them to arrest after the forensic report of their answerscripts confirmed the allegations.
