The BJP-led Assam government starts feeling the hit of the alleged failure to keep its poll promises even after nine months in power. During this period, the Sarbananda Sonowal government has done precious little to resolve the vexed Bangladeshi immigrants' issue and instead Dispur seems to maintained stoic silence on the Centre’s intention to roll out red carpet for more Bangladeshi immigrants as refugees. The time has come for the people to know the real agenda of the governments both in Delhi and Dispur. This was more or less of what the leaders of an organization said when they staged dharma in front of the Assam BJP unit office in Guwahati on Saturday.
In a hard hitting letter shot off to Assam BJP president Ranjit Das, the Prabrajan Birudhi Manch convener Upomanyu Hazarika dared the state party chief to clear uts position on the move to amend the Citizenship Act which will fuel the overcrowded north eastern state will more immigrants.
Hazarika, in his strongly worded letter has cited some glaring examples of how a section of the illegal settlers have been grabbing land in some areas without any hindrance.
He said that before coming to power, the party vowed to detect and deport the illegal settlers apart from sealing the porous Indo-Bangladesh border to stop further influx.
But both Delhi and Dispur are allegedly trying to safeguard the Hindu immigrants even by amending the citizenship Act which has raised doubts over the government’s sincerity in the implementation of the Assam Accord, 1985 which marked an end to the six year Assam agitation with the loss of 855 lives, said Hazarika in his letter.
