Bank customer and common citizens in Kokrajhar, heart of BTAD aministration face banking crisis onTuesday due to the an all-India bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), representing bank employees and officers across the country, opposing what it has termed as “anti-people banking and labour laws reform”, besides the government’s move to infringe upon rights of trade unions and outsourcing of permanent jobs.
In Kokrajhar,all banks public and private sectors remained closed for the day as bank staff are demanding legitimate compensation to employees and officers for extra hours of work performed on demonetisation work and reimbursement of the cost to banks by the government.
It also called for removal on the ceiling on gratuity and exemption of all superannuation benefits from income tax. The other demands of the UFBU,which includes- extension of erstwhile pension scheme in bank in lieu of NPS, proper implementation of compassionate appointment scheme, adequate recruitment in banks, measures to recover bad loans, introduction of five-day banking, and negotiation of next wage revision process.
Common citizen and bank customers expresses that the bank strike affected normal life for the day.

KOKRAHAR: A sense of alarm has gripped the Jharbari area after a timber smuggler was discovered dead in a firing incident during the early hours of the morning in Kokrajhar. The incident occurred along ride no. 1 under the Jharbari range of the Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar district, where the smuggler was fatally shot while transporting logs on a cycle from deep within the forest.
