Naked protest in Diphu

In a bizarre show of shock and anger hundreds of Karbi youths representing 24 organization staged an unprecedented naked protest alleging lack of response to the demands they gave been raising for years.

The protectors thronged in hundreds in Diphu, put off their shirts and trousers and took out a huge procession across the district headquarter town leaving the authorities in a catch 22 situation.

Talking to Assam Times, the protestors said their demands ate old. But the government has not been responding to these at all.

“For the last several years we have been demanding an updated voter list. The current list has names of thousands of outsiders and non tribal people who have been enjoying the rights and privileges meant for us. Are not we left naked?,” said a protestor.

LAKWA: A private gas agency employee died and two others sustained serious injury when a gas tank owned by it exploded in Lakwa on Wednesday. The incident took place at 11 in the morning when the tank suddenly exploded with a huge sound leaving employee Prasanta Mohan dead on the spot.   Two others who sustained injury have been rushed to the hospital where the duo are struggling with death. The local residents in large number thronged the spot and vandalized the agency alleging lack of care and attention for the employees.  The situation was brought under control immediately after the policemen arrived in the spot.
