Death threat to Zubeen!

Zubeen Garg received death threat in social media when the most popular singer was performing in Dibrugarh on Friday.

A Facebook status warning that the singer would be shot dead from a point blank range went viral in the evening forcing the district authority to step up security in the function were the most popular singer was performing.

The threat was posted in the facebook by some Kai Khaplang alias Tultul Baglary who threatened to shot dead the dinger from.10 metre away from him..

He received the death threat hardly a week after he stepped down from a stage in Guwahati for disallowing to perform in Hindi.

Emphasizing on preventive healthcare initiatives for the media persons a special program titled ‘Evening with a Doctor’ is mooted at the premises of Guwahati Press Club (GPC). Under this program a practicing doctor will be available for free consultations on healthcare issues for the benefit of GPC member-journalists along with their close relatives. Change in Act to safeguard immigrants!

The Centre is believed to have been clearing the decks to grant refugee status to the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants. According to highly placed sources the home ministry is finetuning some changes in the vital clauses of the Indian Citizenship Act 1955 to enable these migrants to stay in the country. The entire task is expected to end before August 15. If the amended Act is cleared in Parliament the refugees from Bangladesh and Pakistan would be able to stay in the state. Flood woes in Goalpara

Flash flood have started wreaking havoc in Goalpara district displacing thousands of people during the last couple of days. The major rivers in the district have been overflowing following the heavy downpour in Meghalaya and the surging waters have inundated a huge area in the lower Assam district where thousands of people in several villages have been affected. The situation is expected to take a grim turn if the rains refuse to halt.

AASU plans massive stir

The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) is all set to hit the streets again if the Centre fails to scrap the move for Indian citizenship to the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants. The state’s influential student organization, in a statement made it plain and simple that never it would allow the immigrants who came to Assam after March 24, 1971 to remain in the state. AASU has threatened to launch a statewide massive movement to detect and deport the immigrants in question.    According to AASU, the Centre’s move is quite contrary to the Assam Accord which is not acceptable under any circumstance.

Oil field auction: Police thrash KMSS protesters

Many people sustained injury when security forces sprang upon a group of KMSS activists in Guwahati who opposed the process to auction a dozen of oil fields in Assam on Saturday. The incident took place in front of the Hotel Redision Blue in the outskirt of the city where petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan was meeting the interested bidders in the morning. Rare exhibition of different art forms organized in the city
