A statue from Thailand dedicated to Lord Buddha unveiled Buddha temple in Mitta Bhava Buddha Monastery Campus at Lokhora, Guwahati on Wednes day. On occasion of Buddha Purnima, one of the most revered festival of Buddhism the statue was unveiled at presence of devotees. After hoisting the Buddhist International flag in the Buddha temple inside the campus the idol was unveiled by Buddhist priest Bhangte Nyane Tishai. He planted a peepal sappling under which species Lord Buddha had his enlightenment in Buddha Gaya. Social worker Rajib Panikhuan, D. Ganesh Pegu, Promod Shyam, Bhugeshwar Shyam, Nag Aang Kham, Teng aung Shyam, Prafulla Hafiza, Hifijul Ahmed, Mangalsing Bay and environmental worker Chandan Kumar Duarah were present in the pray to Lord Buddha. Devotees planted saplings in the campus. An organisation from Thailand offered the Lord Buddha golden brass statue of complying with a request from Assam Therawada Buddhist Welfare Society.

KOHIMA:Nagaland chief minister TR Zeliang has urged the investors to set up bamboo processing plant in the state in view of the plenty of raw materials. In his address at the governing body meeting of the Nagaland Bamboo Development Authority, Zeliang said the north eastern state has huge potential for bamboo processing plants since 11 districts have registered good growth in bamboo plantation. He said sending bamboo outside the state wont be viable since it is costly to transport the raw material from the remote areas. Hence, setting up bamboo plants in the state would be an ideal and lucrative initiative.
GUWAHATI:A local court in the city of Guwahati rejected the bail petitions moved by the KMSS leaders a day after police arrested them for allegedly disrupting the ongoing eviction drive in the Amchang Wildlife sanctuary. Identified as Bedanta Laskar, Dharya Konwar and Gopi Saikia were produced before the chief judicial magistrate on Tuesday who remanded the trio to the jail.Notably, police arrested them on Monday as they staged protest against the eviction drive along with the illegal settlers who were evicted. Police have charged them with trying to fuel the protest by the evicted people. For the second consecutive day, police conducted a raid at the KMSS office on Tuesday.
GUWAHATI: Congress leader and former chief minister Tarun Gogoi strongly criticized the BJP led Assam government alleging in human eviction drive in Amchang wildlife sanctuary, Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong. NEW DELHI:Hundreds of people from three organizations from BTAD areas have staged dharna in Delhi on Tuesday reviving the Bodoland demand. With banners, festoons and play cards, the ABSU, NDFB-P and PJCMB leaders and workers thronged the Ramlila Ground in the capital where they staged the dharna for nearly two hours raising the seperate statehood demand. GUWAHATI: Stung by widespread criticism and simmering anger of the landless lot, chief minister Sarbanand Sonowal orders early steps to rehabilitate those evicted in the Amchang wildlife sanctuary, Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong. HOJAI: Two IAS aspirants from Assam in New Delhi have received a huge encouragement when the Ajmal Foundation announced the duo as the beneficiaries of a scheme meant to help the civil service aspirants. GUWAHATI: A forest official engaged in the massive eviction drive in the Amchang wildlife sanctuary sustained serious injury when an evicted person attacked him with a sharp weapon on Tuesday. The clash took place in the morning when the huge joint team of forest department and district administration resumed the drive to evict the illegal settlers. As they started demolishing a house the owner had an altercation with the forest official who was busy with his assigned task defying the resistance. Suddenly, the owner of the house attacked the official with a sharp weapon. He was rushed to the hospital and the owner was arrested.
