A statue from Thailand dedicated to Lord Buddha unveiled Buddha temple in Mitta Bhava Buddha Monastery Campus at Lokhora, Guwahati on Wednes day. On occasion of Buddha Purnima, one of the most revered festival of Buddhism the statue was unveiled at presence of devotees. After hoisting the Buddhist International flag in the Buddha temple inside the campus the idol was unveiled by Buddhist priest Bhangte Nyane Tishai. He planted a peepal sappling under which species Lord Buddha had his enlightenment in Buddha Gaya. Social worker Rajib Panikhuan, D. Ganesh Pegu, Promod Shyam, Bhugeshwar Shyam, Nag Aang Kham, Teng aung Shyam, Prafulla Hafiza, Hifijul Ahmed, Mangalsing Bay and environmental worker Chandan Kumar Duarah were present in the pray to Lord Buddha. Devotees planted saplings in the campus. An organisation from Thailand offered the Lord Buddha golden brass statue of complying with a request from Assam Therawada Buddhist Welfare Society.

NDFB-P threatens to pull out of peace process

BJP legislators visit to Assam-Nagaland border

Minister tenders apology for cancer comment

Caught in a barrage of nationwide criticism Himanta Biswa Sarma has tendered unconditional apology for his comments linking cancer to sins. In a statement he issued on Thursday, Sarma said he was pained to have learnt that his comment has shocked the cancer patients and their relatives. That's why, he said he tendered unconditional apology. Sarma recently kicked off a storm saying that cancer is the outcome of a person's past sins inviting a hail of criticism. Court reserves ruling on ACS-APS officers' bail plea

GUWAHATI:A special court in Guwahati on Thursday reserved the ruling on a set of bail pleas moved by over 20 ACS, APS and allied service officers who have been arrested in the APSC job scam. According to information, the special court heard the entire set of bail pleas from their appointed lawyers and reserved the ruling which is expected in a day or two. Six ACS and APS officers have been remanded to judicial custody on Thursday after the police probing the scam produced them before the special court following the end of the 14 days police remand. 4 dead, many hurt in Nagaon road mishap

NAGAON: Four persons died and at least 25 others sustained injury when the passenger bus in which they were travelling collided it's head on a truck in Nagaon on Thursday. The accident took place early in the morning on the National Highway No 37 at Mensing area near Kaliabor where three passengers died on the spot. Another died as he along with injured others were rushed to a local hospital in Jakhalabandha. Local residents here have blamed the dense fogs that disrupted the visibility when the loaded truck and the mini bus were coming from opposite directions.

Pall of gloom in film world as star actor departs

GUWAHATI:Biju Phukan is no more. The promising Assamese film personality breathed his last at a Guwahati based hospital suddenly at 6.15 in the evening leaving a pall of gloom across the state. GUWAHATI:Veteran actor Biju Phukan is dead. He was 70. Phukan, the doyen of Assamese film world suddenly died of cardiac arrestin the afternoon. According to information, Phukan, who was not keeping well for the last couple of days suddenly fell seriously ill and his family members rushed him to the Apollo Hospital in Guwahati and died minutes after he was admitted in ICU.
