Eye specialists to attend Guwahati Press Club clinic
The next Saturday OPD (outpatient department) clinic at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) will be conducted by Sight First Eye-Clinic, where eye specialists Dr Shubhra Kinkor Goswami and Dr Bijuli Goswami would check the participants’ eyes and offer free consultations. The weekly camp, organized under the series of ‘Evening with a Doctor’ programs for the benefit of GPC members along with their dependents, will start at 4 pm on 24 June and continue till 6 pm. The organizers encourage more participation of children belonged to the press club member-journalists in the forthcoming camp.
The last clinic on 17 June was conducted by the city based Emerge Diagnostic, where a team of health workers under the leadership of Dr Dhrubajyoti Gogoi took blood samples of the participants for screening of glucose, creatinine, cholesterol, bilirubin and haemoglobin. They also got their blood pressure checked in the camp.
The pathology reports of nearly 50 participants in the camp showed that the media persons were maintaining healthy kidneys, though few were suffering from high blood pressure & sugar. Very few were diagnosed with high cholesterol and hemoglobin level. The unique healthcare initiative was launched by eastern India’s pioneer pressmen’s organization GPC last year, where well-known institution Dispur Hospitals extended initial support to raise a doctor’s chamber at the club premises in August 2016. The premier hospital successfully managed by Dr Jayanta Bardoloi also conducted the first episode of the media clinics.
Till date, practicing doctors from Apollo Chennai Hospital, Medanta-the Medicity Hospital, Manipal Bangalore Hospital, Down Town Hospitals, GNRC Hospitals, Dispur Hospitals, Wintrobe Hospital, Narayana Super-Specialty Hospitals, Swagat Super-Surgical Institute, Shankardev Nethralaya Guwahati, Barthakur Clinic, Rahman Hospitals, Sun Valley Hospital, Government Ayurvedic College, MMC Panbazar, Institute of Dental Science & Research Center etc have attended the camps.

North East Dialogue Forum, a network of civil society organisation has organised two days state level consultation related to climate change at Bosco Reach Out, Guwahati on 24 and 25 July. Journalists’ Forum Assam (JFA) appreciated the management of Niyomiya Barta (www.niyomiyabarta.org) for announcing Majithia wage board benefits to its employees including journalists. The media forum welcomed the development as the newly launched Assamese daily emerged as the second newspaper to honour the verdict of the Supreme Court in northeast India.
