Nagaon incident: Doubts over admin’s integrity

Amid a seismic waves of protest over the recent incident in Nagaon, a new organization opposing the Indo-Bangladesh border influx raises serious doubts over the integrity of the authority.

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Sunday, Prabajan Virodhi Manch leader Upomanyu Hazarika said integrity of the district administration, the former rebels were detained charging them with resorting to extortion and criminal intimidation. But Hazarika said the CCTV footage suggests a different story. According to him, the complaints were false targetting a few innocent youths.

“They chose the act on a false complaint and proceeded against completely innocent persons letting the actual accused. i.e the traders go free. There can not be a greater subversion of justice,” said Hazarika

He observed that the State Government and political leadership have abdicated their responsibility to the indigenous people, instead of protecting indigenous people, the first priority is to protect bengali migrants, which has triggered incidents like Silapathar and Nagaon creating a language divide between Assamese and Bengali , taking a pro migrant and anti indigenous stand in a crucial case in the Supreme Court etc.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma says that BJP did not come to power on the Assamese vote. It now remain for Sarbananda Sonowal to say that he is the Jatiya Nayak of Bangladeshi and not  of  indigenous people, said Hazarika.
