Gogoi blames Centre for ravaging flood fury

Senior Congress leader and former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi blamed it all on the Centre for the ravaging flood fury that wreaks huge havoc in the state where at least 30 people were killed.  Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Thursday, Gogoi said the state government could not ensure repairing and construction dykes since the Centre did not release ₹1200 crore meant for the purpose. “The Centre is responsible. Mild quake shakes Nagaland

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake jolted Nagaland on Thursday striking panic button for many people in the north eastern hills state.  The earthquake, which originated in Zuhenboto district struck the state at 13.08 hours forced many people to come out of the high rise buildings in the urban areas. There is, however, no report of any casuslty or loss of property.

Lull in rains recedes worsening fear

The rains have relented much to a major respite. But the flood waters have refused to recede putting more and more people in dire trouble. The overflowing waters of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries still keep wreaking havoc among in 25 district with a toll of 25 during the last four days. Flood woes remain unchanged

Flood toll mounts to 26

Flood scene worsens on Monday after 26 people dead during the last three days disrupting surface communication in many places.  The river Brahmaputra and its tributaries flowing above the danger level submerging nearly 3000 villages in 21 districts forcing army and Indian Air Force to engage in relief and rescue operation in the worst hit Kokrajhar and Nagaon district.   The second wave of the flash wave seems to have hit Nagaon and Kokrajhar where thousands of people have been evacuated to relief camps.  In Kokrajhar district alone the flood wave washed away ten people while ten others have been reported from other flood affected areas...

The overall flood situation has gone from bad to worse with the river Brahmaputra and its tributaries flowing above the danger level submerging nearly 3000 villages in 21 districts till Monday.  The toll has gone up to 15 from ten during that last 24 hours forcing the authority to step up relief and rescue measures.
