Patowary stresses skill development

‘Skill development cannot be done in isolation. It must go hand in hand with industry department in the journey of skilling the youths of the state.’ This was stated by Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Minister, Chandra Mohan Patowary while addressing a day-long workshop, ‘Dakhya Axom: Unnata Axom– An Initiative for Better Human Resource Planning to Achieve the Goal of Skill India’ organised by Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM) at Assam Administrative Staff College, Khanapara on Saturday.

Referring to China’s example of global dominance, the Minister said that if India can also convert its population to a skilled workforce, then the nation will be the skill hub of the world as per the envision of the prime minister.

He said that henceforth all employment exchange offices in the state will be converted to district skill development centres and will also act as facilitation centres for career counselling. ‘Thereby, employment officers will now on interact with the students and understand their requirements apart from registering their names in the employment exchange offices’, said the Minister.

Chief Secretary, VK Pipersenia said that each industrial sector must have their own skill development centres to improve the learning as well as production outcome and called upon the representatives of the industrial sectors to partner with ASDM to achieve the objectives.

Additional Chief Secretaries of Industries and Commerce Department, Ravi Capoor and Skill, Employment and Entrepreneurship Department, KV Eapen both highlighted the emerging areas that the state needs to focus on like, hospitality, wellness, food processing etc. where skilled manpower is required and create a pool of skilled workforce.

Commissioner, Industries and Commerce, Dr KK Dwivedi said that only skill can enhance the employability and productivity of an individual and that skill and industry departments will work in synergy to achieve the avowed goal.

Commissioner & Secretary of skill department, Ashutosh Agnihotri, while addressing the welcome address said that India has a unique advantage of a young and energetic population and hoped that ASDM will make skilling more effective and productive.

Mission Director, AP Tiwari delivered the vote of thanks and ensured the industry delegates that the industry’s plans, wisdom and execution mode will be taken into consideration while achieving the goal of a skilled Assam.

JEE candidate arrested in Guwahati

Guwahati: Police have arrested a JEE candidate for engaging a candidate to appear on his behalf in the recent Joint Entrance Examination. According to information, Neel Nakhstra Das,  who secured 99 per cent marks in the competitive examination did not himself appeared in it from Guwahati centre.  He engaged one of his acquaintances who appeared on his behalf. Another arrest in police recruitment scam

Guwahati: The policemen probing the police recruitment scam has arrested a businessman on Tuesday. He is none other than Akhshay Chand who got the sub contract to conduct the recruitment test on September 20. The Bongaigaon based trader was held immediately after a private hospital in Guwahati released him 10 days after he was rushed to it for treatment. Before undergoing treatment in the hospital, he was admitted in another private hospital in the city.  Later,  CID produced him before CJM which remanded him to judicial custody. The court rejected CID's prayer for Chand in their custody.  But the court rejected it citing health ground.

Bajrang Dal bike rally stopped in Tinsukia

Tinsukia: A group of around 30 youths unleashed no less terror in Tinsukia as they took out a bike rally in the town on Monday. Local residents say the youths who claiming to have been representing Bajrang Dal took out the bike rally with sharp weapons triggering sharp reaction across the town. According to the policemen, who prevented the youths from proceeding and arrested 5 youths, the district administration was not in the know of such rally. But Bajrang Dal leaders have disowned the claim of the rally.

Tarun Gogoi back home

Guwahati: Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has left the Guwahati Medical College Hospital on Sunday after undergoing treatment of COVID19 for more than three months.  GMCH doctors and staff bade farewell to the senior Congress leader after the authority declared his full recovery.   Gogoi also thanked the government, doctors and staff for ensuring his recovery.   Gogoi was rushed to the premier north eastern Medical Institute on August 20 after he tested positive.  His condition deteriorated because of post COVID 19 complications and AIIMS director rushed an expert who guided the GMCH doctors.   After Gogoi was admitted health minister...

Guwahati: Noted economist and thinker Dr Jayanta Madhab passed away after prolonged ailment in Guwahati on Monday. The end came in the wee hours where he was surrounded by his family members. Assamese people feel unsafe in Mizoram

AIAZWL: Thousands of people from Assam feel it quite unsafe to stay in Mizoram following Saturday's border skirmish where 3 people from the state sustained in an incident of attack by miscreants at Lilapur. Escalating tension along Assam-Mizoram border

Silchar: Tension is escalating along the Assam-Mizoram border after a group of miscreants from the neighbouring north eastern state pounded on a section of people in the territory of Assam.  The incident took place suddenly at Lailapur area in Cachar district when a group of Mizo miscreants started indiscriminate firing in the area terrorizing the people of Assam.  Then some of the miscreants started setting afire as many as ten big and small business establishments owned by the people of Assam.  A team of Assam Police and central para military force arrived in the spot and disposed the miscreants and it took several hours for the Mizoram police to reach the spot....

BJP leader held in another recruitment scam

Guwahati: A police team has arrested a local BJP leader in Guwahati after it registered a suo motto case alleging a scam in the recruitment of employees in the panchayat and rural development department. Guwahati: After a brainstorming session in Guwahati on Thursday Congress, CPI, CPM have agreed to fight unitedly to keep BJP at bay in the 2021 assembly polls.
