Manipur Panchayat polls on Oct 7
In the BJP-ruled Manipur, decks have been cleared to hold the 5th general Panchayat polls in six districts of the valley, including Kakching and Jiribam slated for October 7.
The State Election Commission on Thursday confirmed that three different colour of ballot papers will be used by voters in the upcoming polls.
It will be pink-coloured ballot papers for Zila Parishad, yellow-coloured ballot papers for Pradhan, and white-coloured ballot papers for Members in the scheduled polls.
At the same time, three different colour of ballot boxes will be provided for the polling. The EC has appealed that vote should be cast using the right colour ballot papers and right colour ballot boxes.
A total of 60 Zila Parishad Members, 161 Pradhans, and 1,513 Members will be elected in the Manipur Panchayat polls 2017 where a total of 7,16,830 voters—3,48,139 males and 3,68,691 females- are eligible to exercise their franchise.
Counting of vote will take place on October 11.

An acrimonious situation was what prevailing on the floor as soon as the false allegations against independent MLA Bhuban Pegu came up after the question hour. The independent MLA from Jonai dropped a bombshell against the government on Thursday that police is in a process to implicate him along with social activist Akhil Gogoi citing link with Huji and Maoists. The AGP MLAs demand a statement. Talking to a private news channel in the sidelines of the session, Pegu dared the government to arrest him on the basis of the police inputs. The Opposition leaders were not assuaged by what the government said. Thus, amid a din the AGP MLAs staged walk out after the question hour.

A school going minor student was injured after she jumped off a running vehicle to escape sexual assault by the driver at Mokrabari here in Kokrajhar today.
Sensational prevails in Kokrjhar following the incident.
According to the victim who is a student of class seven at a girl school in Kokrajhar, she was on way to her school in a hired Auto-rickshaw when the driver tried sexual advance towards her following which she jumped off the vehicle in fear. She received injuries in her body, legs, and hands. She was later brought to a Kokrajhar RNB Hospital and given treatment.
The victim family said that she usually come to her school in Kokrajhar town but today have to hired a auto after getting late after which the incident happened.
Police have arrested the auto driver identified as Fazalu Rahamen (24), a resident of Simlabari under Bilasipara police station in Dhubri district after a FIR was; lodged by the victim's family.
Victims’ family demanded that district administration to take stern action against the accused person and punish him.

BTC Deputy Chief and BPF spokesman Kampa Borgoyary said that he would move the court against AIUDF leader and MLA including Serman Ali alleging involvement in the recent string of incidents in Labdanguri where four lemon traders were killed.
Talking exclusively to Assam Times on Friday in Kokrajhar, he expressed serious concern over the prevailing situation in BTAD region said that it was a very condemnable incident for the council as the common peoples are becoming victims with several incidents like kidnapped,killing and extortion since few years.
He said allegation levelled against him of involving with recent Baksa situation from leader and MLAs from AIUDF party was unfortunate and provocative against him.
He said that he was not involved with any incidents of Baksa district and move to court against the AIUDF MLA who are trying to craete bad image on his political career and personality.
He has also challenged that AIUDF should prove his involvement with situation,for which why he is waiting and court will give justification over the issue,he added.
Borgoyary said that the BTAD administration has no any power to maitaining law and order in the region,all management and functions are coming from state government itself,of which the council administration has to live with uncontrolled.
He revealed that the law and order situation is very bad in the region since few years as unwanted incidents like killing,kidnapping and extortion are occuring in huge figured especially in Baksa,Chirang and Kokrajhar district and we(BTAD administration) have been intimated to centre and sttae government about incidents.He has demanded state government should take strict actions against situation so that common peoples can meet healthy situation.
He has also comedown heavily on the demands of Presidential Rule in BTAD from AIUDF Chief and MP Badruddin Ajmal said that how it is possibble Presidential Rule in BTAD as the council fall under in Assam state and he adding said that if Presidential Rule comes in the state,it automatically will go under Presidential Rule.He has also said that the prevailing situation which are occuring in the region are not in a majore as to demand of Presidential Rule.
Borgoyary termed the demand from Ajmal and Kokrajhar Lok Sabha MP Naba Kumar Sarania was nothing but a political provocation to create misunderstanding among common publics in the region.
