Pramila Rani BPF's Kokrajhar LS candidate

Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) has declared Social welfare minister Pramila Rani Brahma as party candidate for No.5 Kokrajhar Lok Sabha seat.

BPF nominated Brahma as party meeting held at Barama in Baksa district on Tuesday.

Pramila Rani Brahma’s political career journey started as MLA from No.30 Kokrajhar east in 1991 and since then she has been enroute to the Assembly without facing any defeat till today for six consecutive terms. She become Agriculture (cabinet) minister in 2006-2011 during the Congress-BPF alliance government for first time and and then Forest Minister in 2016. With BJP let government, Brahma is Social welfare minister. She is also holding as vice-president of the BPF party since its inception 2005.

Assam flood fury takes grim turn

Assam's overall flood situation remains grim on Wednesday with Brahmaputra flowing above the danger leevl affecting atleast five lakh people.


According to the Central Water Commission, the Brahmaputra is crossed danger level at Guwahati, Goalpara, Sibsagar, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Nimatighat, Naharkatia and Tezpur.


This wave have affected 11 districts where vast tracks of farm land and a large number of human habitations have been submerged in Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Dibrugarh, Sibsagar, Jorhat, Golaghat, Morigaon, Sonitpur, Dhubri, Goalpara and Barpeta.


The wave of floods has so far claimed two lives in two separate incidents in lower Assam.


The marooned people have no option but to take shelter on railway tracks, roads, raised areas, government schools and offices.


River island Majuli in Jorhat district was flooded following a breach in an embankment affecting thousands of people. Kaziranga National Park and Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary have also come under the suring waters of the mighty Brahmaputra leaving immense inconveniance for the birds and animals. Rhinoceros, pygmy hog and wild buffaloes at the worls heritage site have been forced to move to the Karbi hills.


Noted educationist, journalist Thaneswar Hazarika passes away

Thaneswar Hazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaper died on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise.


Noted educationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise.


Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.

"EKATA YATRA" to be held at Lumding.

Hojai:- In order to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Lumding Sports Association is going to hold All Assam (Prize Money) Marathon Race "EKATA YATRA" on July 6 at Lumding under Hojai District, a  Press Communique stated.

The  Press Communique issued by Lumding Sports Association General Secretary Sudip Kumar Das on Friday  further state's that the marathon race will began on morning 6 am from near Lumding Civil Hospital campus.

Participant's  coming from outside will be provided accommodation  (fooding and lodging) from 5th July evening to 6th July Upto afternoon's Lunch. Outside Participant's has to report the association within the stipulated time 5 pm of 5th July.

The winner's will be awarded with Rs 7,000 (1st Prize); Rs 5,000 (2nd Prize); Rs.3,000 (3rd Prize) and Seven (7) Consolation prize's.
