Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma Remembered Across Assam on Student Day

KOKRAJHAR: Citizens from various communities, particularly the Bodo community, commemorated the exemplary contributions of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, former president of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), on his 68th birth anniversary, celebrated as 'Student Day' across different districts of Assam with a series of day-long events on Sunday.

In Kokrajhar, the central committee of the All Bodo Students Union, in collaboration with the Upendra Nath Brahma Trust (UNBT) and the Kokrajhar district committee of ABSU, convened at Thulungapuri Dotma amidst a massive turnout of public and student representatives. ABSU President Dipen Boro unfurled the union flag, followed by heartfelt floral tributes to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma at his tomb and samadhi sthal.

The event witnessed symbolic gestures towards sustainable peace, including the release of balloons and white pigeons by esteemed guests, alongside sapling plantations symbolizing the spirit of the day. Notable figures paying homage to Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma included Dr. Surath Narzary, President of the Bodo Sahitya Sabha, and renowned journalist Rupa Chenoy from Mumbai.

ABSU President Dipen Boro underscored Bodofa's lifelong dedication to the welfare and upliftment of marginalized communities, urging the government to confer upon him the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor, in recognition of his enduring legacy.

"The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) demands the Bharat Ratna for Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma, a leader revered not only by Bodos but also by students and the underprivileged," stated Dipen Boro, highlighting Bodofa's pivotal role in the Bodoland movement and his vision for a literate society based on the principles of non-violence.

Similar observances took place in Tamulpur, where the Tamulpur district committee of ABSU, in collaboration with local entities, honored Bodofa's memory, with Bodoland Territorial Region's Chief Executive Member Pramod Boro emphasizing the significance of Bodofa's ideals in shaping a brighter future for students.

In recognition of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma's enduring impact, the Assam government officially declared March 31st as 'Chatra Divosh' (Student Day) across the state, ensuring that his legacy continues to inspire generations.

The commemoration of Bodofa's birth anniversary underscores his indelible mark on Assam's socio-political landscape, reaffirming the commitment to his vision of empowerment and progress for all.

Four NDFB-S cadres arrested in Kokrajhar

Security forces apprehended four cadres of National Democratic Front of Boroland-Songbijit faction(NDFB-S) from Audang bazar area under Bishmuri police outpost on Tuesday in Kokrajhar. Getting an input about presence of militant outfit cadres in the area,a joint team of police and army conducted serach operation along the area and able to arrest four cadres of the banned NDFB-S militant organisation from Audang bazar.They were identified as Monelal Brahma,Amit Kaklario alias Takla alias Lantha,Sumbu Basumtaty and Rajib Narzary alias Goldum. Relief camp inmates deprives facilities

Although schools were reopened from Monday after month long summer vacation across the state,but students along the flood affected areas were deprived from getting educational facilities following washed away road communication,bridges,school complex and houses due to recent heavy floods in Kokrajhar district. Parbotjhora model hospital inaugurates

BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary inaugurated newly constructed Parbotjhora model hospital at Tipkai on Monday under Parbotjhora subdivision in Kokrajhar district. The hospital was constructed amounting of Rs. 3.72 crores from BTC administration to facilitate medical services in the area.  Mohilary also participated in a meeting organized in connection with the programme.  Mohilary said the BTC administration was working for the uplift of society in the region,specially health sector has been given priority to make socially awareness on health among society. Health camp by SSB

A medical civic action programme was conducted by SSB and civil Doctors at Dadgiri weekly market along Indo Bhutan border on Monday in Chirang district. It was organised to provide medical aid to tge flood affected peoples inthee area and distributed medicines at free of costs. KS Shekhwat, officer of 16th Battalion of SSB graced and distributed the medicine among relief inmates. Relief camp inmates expresses theirappreciation for noble venture initiated from SSB.   

NDFB-P appeals for supporting Boroland issue

NDFB(S) cadre arrested in Kokrajhar

Security forces belonging to Police,Army and Cobra battalion of CRPF apprehended a cadre of NDFB(Songbijit faction) from Mainaguri area in Kokrajhar district on Sunday morning. Getting an input about presence of militant cadres in the area,a joint team of security forces conducted a search operation against militant outfit and able to arrest a cadre of NDFB(S) under Kokrajhar PS.The cadre was identified as Puken Borgoyary,23; of Amguri village,was actively involved with militancy activities in the area.A pistol along two live round and a mobile handset was recovered from his possession.

SLRM project launched

Kokrajhar Municipality Board(KMB) launched its Solid & Liquid Resources Management Project(SLRM) under Swachch Kokrajhar Mission to make green and clean Kokrajhar in the district on Saturday. BTC executive member Doneswar Goyary launched the project in the presence of huge public and pfficials from BTC administration and district administration. Three kidnappers arrested

Salakati police apprehended three cadres of National Santhali Liberation Army (NSLA), Adivasi militant organization from Kachuabil area in Kokrajhar district late last night, who were involved with kidnapped Ajijul Haque alias Afjal, 23 of Choutaki village. Ajijul was kidnapped on June 30 last from his Choutaki resident under Salkati outpost in Kokrajhar and since then kidnappers demanded 20 lalks for the release of Ajijul.
